Against The Posh at home League Cup first round

Great result tonight.....hope Henderson isn't badly injured. Draw for the second round tomorrow night in the build-up to Birmingham's game against Sheffield United at about 7.20pm......

An excellent win for Stanley tonight. A wonderful start with a goal within the first minute from our first attack! Long throw from Freddie Sass only cleared to Henderson who smashed the ball from a narrow angle on the right! The ball went through the keepers legs! The second goal was a poachers flick from the improving Kelsey Mooney. Stanley controlled the rest of the first half. Henderson went off with a knock early in the second half and Petrborough had all the possession but the Stanley defence stayed solid. Peterborough got a goal back late on but Stanley hung on through the nine added minutes!

Well done to the players and staff last night. Great to grab two early goals but even better to hang on for a win.
If the game was all about passing sideways between a back four The Posh would be in the Premier League but there’s only one way to win a game.
Thought all the players did well but special praise, from me, for Charlie Brown as a stand-in right back.
Posh had two good wingers and our wide defenders handled them well.
Hope there’s some reward in the next round.

Never overlook the steadying influence of the Club Captain last night.
Covered every blade of grass and constantly talking and cojoling the younger ones.
You can't buy experience.

He had a great game last night. Really noticeable in him talking and giving guidance to the younger lads. He certainly put a full shift in.

Seamus had a great game. I didn’t think he still had it in him. Charlie Brown did well at right-back and Mooney also had a good game.

We were a little more defensive than against Oldham. Understanding perhaps, but I was a little disappointed because Josh Woods, Charlie Brown and Henderson did really well together then. More football than we normally play.

I like our back three and Ollie in goal, but I thought, as I always do, that bringing on Coyle and Love with a full half-hour left is unnecessarily destructive. We can play well with our backs to the wall occasionally, but it is not a situation I think the manager should actively seek. Not for a full 30 minutes anyway.
