could anybody give me any details about this badge

Discovered this badge in a drawer at one of my customers on Royds St. following a chat about the team. Her husband had stored it on its original card & is made of melamine, a predecessor of plastic which dates it around the 1940's, poss lateish. As much as I know from the conversation as I remember. Hope it fills some gaps.

thanks Al. I thought it would be mid-to late forties due to the shortage of metals during the war, and couldn't really see it being thirties or earlier.
