Canvey Island

Good result today, although it was a million miles off being a classic. Very disappointed by the attendance though.

Match report now available on the official site.

Re: Canvey Island

Absolutely disgraceful gate for the opening match of the season. Our lowest in our conference career and the lowest conference gate of the day. How are we expected to carry on as a full-time club, challenging for a football league place if the Accrington public turns its back on us?

Re: Canvey Island

slightly disappointing match, great result though and it's the points that count. But as for the attendance....................pants! Come on people. We could do with those war posters going with the "WE NEED YOU" on them.

Re: Canvey Island

There Was A Lot Of Fans Singing (Me Included) Which Added To The Atmosphere, But There Was A Dissopointing Gate Considering It Was The First Game, And It Hardly Rained In The Second Half. No Excuses Really .....

Re: Canvey Island

Rain or no rain, the gate was shocking. First match of the season and we had quite a number of new signings on display. I would imagine it's going to be a struggle to maintain a full-time playing staff on those sort of attendances. As Coley himself says, "...the harsh facts are that bigger attendances equal more revenue which due to the conference rules regarding a cap relating to percentage of turnover thus equals a bigger playing budget."

Re: Canvey Island

Rob heys says the budget is below 1k crowds ... that was last season granted... But I doubt they made it much higher this season

of course it could be better hence coleys notes... but one game into the season and to start suggesting the club is going to struggle is a bit much isnt it? give them some credit eh

Re: Canvey Island

Fair enough, Mr K, perhaps I'm getting a bit too neurotic about it. Anyway, I think I've persuaded Doug to turn up for the Exeter match, so that's one more!
