Cod Almighty!!!!

Long gone are the days when such was our hoodoo that we could afford to ask Grimsby "can we play you every week???"

Presumably they'll be challenging at the right end of the table again.

Big improvement on result in last season's corresponding fixture. On Stanley on!

Spent the afternoon up a ladder. How did Paddy get on? Presumably he was subbed off due to lack of recent game time.

Re: Cod Almighty!!!!

Great battling performance from Stanley against a well organised, quick, cheating team enhanced by a twelfth player with a whistle.
Worse refereeing performance I’ve seen for a long time. He was shocking and almost ruined the match.

Paddy Maddon did a lot of running but didn’t get a great deal of service where he could’ve done damage but he looked match fit.

We’ll miss Walton if, as rumours have it, he leaves this month and Rawson if he picks up more knocks.

Re: Cod Almighty!!!!

Why are incompetent officials regarded as immune from any criticism.
Awarding 25 fouls against Stanley + 3 yellow cards, compared to a mere 7 against Grimsby, smacks of blatant bias.
It makes it look like we tried to kick them off the park.
No game could be so one sided in terms of offences committed.
Of course, the club can say nothing against the EFL, but no one will convince me that those in charge would be delighted to see the back of Accrington Stanley

Didn't we beat them 3 - 2 in the home game last season

Apologies you're right and the season before it was 0-0. I wonder where I got the idea they'd beaten us 1-3 at home from.

Re: Cod Almighty!!!!

Thought it was a good game. The first 15 minutes was end to end stuff and if Walton had scored the open goal after that great build up , the game may have turned out a little different. Grimsby played neat football and their goal came from a great cross but thought Wright should have done better. Better second half from the reds until the ref decided the game was about him and nearly turned it into a farce. Paddy did ok. In fact for a 35 year old who's had little game time this season he looked good. Hopefully with more game time and better service he'll bag a few. Two home draws, but both Grimsby and the Gills look like they'll be challenging this season, so I think there's room for optimism.
