Is it just me?

Since I don't get to watch the team on the pitch, I have to rely on you good people to gain a feel for how well they are playing or how poor their current form is. I can sense a cautious optimism from most postings and, I must confess, it's beginning to rub off on me.

However, the other thing I keep a close eye on is the stat sheet and that, unfortunately, is providing a bit of worry. I do acknowledge that numbers and statistics can typically be massaged to deliver whatever message the presenter intends but the fact remains that our results against the teams closest to us have been rather less than spectacular. We have taken only 5 points of a possible 18 from the five sides directly below us in the table (3 from Grays and 2 from two games with Halifax) and must face positions 2 through 5 yet again. Granted, three of those matches will be played out in the friendly confines of the IES but I feel we need a much better outcome from these games if we are to realize the dream of League football next year.

With your kind indulgence, I have taken the liberty of posting a table of our remaining fixtures with the oppositions current table position and the previous result this season. Home matches are in bold. Please tell me I'm just worrying needlessly...

11 - Cambridge United (L)
2 - Exeter City (L)
15 - Aldershot Town (W)
12 - Dagenham & Redbridge (W)
10 - Gravesend & Northfleet (D)
5 - Morecambe (L)
14 - Burton Albion (W)
19 - Crawley Town (W)
7 - Hereford United (W)
3 - Stevenage Borough (L)
22 - Southport (W)
8 - York City (W)
4 - Grays Athletic (W)
18 - Forest Green Rovers (W)
9 - Woking (W)
20 - Scarborough (D)
21 - Tamworth (W)
16 - Kidderminster Harriers (W)

Re: Is it just me?

If we play well we can beat anybody in this league and could win this league if our performances carry on as they are...If we start to have a blip and exeter start to go on a run things could get difficult but we are top of the form table! unbeaten in god knows how many and two wins in two...Only stevenage, morecambe and exeter beat us, the latter to didn't deserve all three...we've beaten grays, york, dagenham, hereford and drawn to halifax twice and gravesend who are all in the top ten which is quite impressive...roll on the good times

Talking Re: Is it just me?

If we can get 9 clear (with the game in hand), then we can afford a couple of blips... Chill out MichiganRed...

Re: Is it just me?

Michiganred: If we can replicate those results in the second half of the season - and my maths is correct - we could be looking at a mighty 90pts... enough to win the championship, I would expect.

You're worrying unnecessarily.

Not particularly because Stanley are enjoying the strongest position they've been in for 44 years.

Rather because worrying is a futile exercise.

If you can do something about a problem . . . do it.

If you can't . . . don't worry.

I believe that I owe this particular piece of homespun philosophy to the late Dr. Norman Vincent Peale , who reportedly knew even less about soccer than I do !

There’s nothing wrong with that advice Mr Morton. Stanley are doing the right thing at the right time, and this is their time.....
