Leighton McGivern

Pasted from the Fishy site........

Coca Cola Football League Two ( Friday 24th Aug 2007 )

Lincoln City v Accrington Stanley
Stanley travel to Lincoln City on Saturday afternoon, looking to bounce straight back from the defeat at the hands of Darlington last week. Amongst the favourites for a play off place, Lincoln recovered well last Saturday with a win at Mansfield after a 0-4 home defeat by Shrewsbury on the opening day of the season and a 1-4 defeat at Doncaster in the Carling Cup.

Paul Carden remains sidelined through injury for another week or so, and Leighton McGivern starts the first of a three match suspension after being sent off in the Reserves on Wednesday.

So you may be wondering why, after only missing two games, Leighton got on tonight.

Check out the League 2 section of ..........

TheFA.com - Players Awaiting Suspension

But do it before quickly.

Amateur hour or what?

Re: Leighton McGivern

Looks like the club have assumed normal rules apply where the ban applies immediatley and the rules are different for reserve games.

I think it's unfair that if a player gets sent off in a reserve game then he isn't allowed to count reserve games as part of the ban.

Someone pointed out, on another thread, that he scored twice for the reserves last week.

That's just the point. Someone at the club has clearly assumed McGiverns ban started immediately. Why else would he not even have been in the squad against Lincoln & Peterborough. If they can assume someone is banned they can equally well assume someone has served out a ban.

You'd think after last years shenanigins a system would have been put in place so they KNOW if a player is eligible to play. Apparently not.

Re: Leighton McGivern

This is from Accrington Observer, 23rd Aug

Leighton McGivern is suspended after getting sent off for violent conduct in the 1-0 second string win over Chester. He has an immediate three game ban.

Can only assume they got info from club, it's not as though newspapers make things up.

Re: Leighton McGivern

Coleman says in this weeks Observer " we thought he was suspended but it actually begins on Wednesday so he will miss the next three matches"
Poor McGivern, had a 5 match ban, bet he's not very happy about it

Re: Leighton McGivern

If our players stopped getting sent off for stupid acts of numbness then there would be no need to serve any bans at all
