Oldham Carabao

I enjoyed that!

I have no doubt that Doolan will be back at the usual eight defenders, three attackers style that he employed with little success last year, but today’s version was unusually ambitious. We were less negative and the line-up more ambitious. I liked the experiment with Charlie Brown at right wing-back, and hope to see more such experiments.

It was also great to see that there was room for both Josh Woods and Alex Henderson, which allowed both of them to play in the positions which I think are their best. And both played well, too!

Re: Oldham Carabao

Excellent first half from a very attacking line up with three “strikers” scoring three good goals.
Second half was predictable in that Mellon clearly gave his players a rocket and they upped their pace, passing and threat, and a goal eventually came. But Stanley held on and, although it did get a bit frantic at times, Wright had few saves to make as Oldham’s shooting was wayward.
Bringing on the subs helped calm things and it was a good win in the end.
Great turn out from the Oldham fans.
