Re: Pre-season friendlies

Two good performances so far. Did well for 1-2 v Rovers on Saturday and even better deservedly getting a 1-1 draw v Everton tonight.
I thought that in both matches our players produced really good teamwork even coping with the virtual whole team ‘substitutions’ mid match. The new players all look fit and well able to play at the football league standard required in the season to come.
On Saturday we played particularly well in the second half and maintained good pressure on the Rovers players. It was two well taken goals that earned Rovers the win!
Tonight I thought that we did even better. We scored a well deserved goal and prevented Everton from scoring in ‘open play’. It was only a tired tackle to give Everton a late penalty that prevented Stanley from getting a well deserved win.
Most importantly though is the ‘game time’ that our players are getting against higher rated opponents.
At the moment I am beginning to feel quite optimistic for the challenges that the new season will bring.
ON SANLEY ON.

Good evening’s entertainment at Whambley, thought both Stanley squads did really well and fully deserved the draw. Very encouraging performances. Well done to John & Ged and all the players.

Re: Pre-season friendlies

Anyone know the winning number of the half-time draw?
The screen wasn’t working and I couldn’t see anything in the crush (!) to get out.

Re: Pre-season friendlies

First chance I've had to see Stanley since last season, and what a transformation.
Gone was the panic stricken hoofball, replaced by a calm, confident team playing fast attacking football. Where it should be played - on the ground.
For 60 minutes Stanley were more than a match for their L1 rivals. Only mass substitutions altered the game in favour of Wigan, who simply stepped up several gears after going 2-0 down.
Ok. It was just a friendly & the scoreline is irrelevant, but
if Stanley continue with this more positive attitude the
coming season looks bright.
Best £6 quid's worth of footballing entertainment I've
had in years. Shame more fans weren't there to see it.

Thank you for sharing. I have a feeling that Stanley probably have enough to be mid table except for up front where they have no specialist strikers capable of scoring consistently at this level.
