Safe & Sound

What an amazing result today to ensure another season in the EFL.
Who expected us to beat high flying Walsall away?
I vote to keep our blue 2nd strip for another season.
It must be our luckiest kit ever.
Commiserations to both Morecambe & Carlisle.
Wishing them both good luck in national league.
Have we finally got the right people to help us kick-on next year?

Well said Lord S...... Let's hope they (the players and staff including JD and GB) at the club have learned enough this season to give them a better chance next season of achieving more points.......sooner.....

Re: Safe & Sound

We were on the back foot for the first 30 minutes but settled down to see the first half out.
We played some good stuff second half in keeping possession of the ball to see the game out. Good result, well earned Stanley.

Re: Safe & Sound

A Stanley survival strategy ....

We could hang on to a 3 goal lead over one of our relegation rivals, at home, for the last 20 minutes of a game ...... naaah.

Or we could hang on to a 1 goal lead over another of our relegation rivals, at home, through time added on ...... naaah.

Or we could beat 2 clubs who'll be in the promotion playoffs, in our last 2 away games ...... yes, that'll do it!

Re: Safe & Sound

It’s the Stanley way, I guess, but just so pleased and relieved for all the squad and especially for John and Ged and their staff.
Well done to everyone at the club, and to the fans who made it today.

Re: Safe & Sound

Statistically speaking, we are back to where we began our Football League journey in 2006-07: around 1 win in four and 50 points. Coley used to point to the fact that the club never went backwards under his tenure. You might be tempted to dismiss this as a brag, but its a useful mantra for a club like ours who will be vulnerable to relegation at this level.

The win yesterday displayed many of the encouraging hallmarks of this team - physicality, work ethic and an ability to play on the break, merits that Chimer has pointed out in our ability to beat stronger opponents away from home. There are weaknesses to address where at all possible, but we need to be patient. A bit of judicious squad-building in the summer and signs of progress next season - 60 points, say - would be fine by me. It took Coley four seasons to reach that mark.
