Tranmere Res 1 - 2 Stanley Res

It looks as though the reserves have won tonight according to the Tranmere website...

Terry Gornell's first half penalty wasn't enough for Rovers who suffered their second defeat of the season against Accrington Stanley in the Pontin's Holidays League.
Jason McAteer's young side went behind in the 7th minute when Accrington's Leighton McGivern struck the bar from a free kick and Joseph Shelmerdine headed in the rebound from close range.
Gornell struck over three minutes later before levelling on 27 minutes. The striker was fouled by Mauro Almeida when about to shoot and he sent Martin Fearon the wrong way from the spot, shooting low to the right.
Soon after, Aaron Cresswell fired a shot across goal after advancing from his left back position, while McGivern hit the bar again at the other end early in the second half.
On 53 minutes Sean Ferguson shot over from 16 yards after good work from Olly James - who was returning from injury - while with their next attack the visitors missed a golden chance to regain the lead.
Michael Johnston was adjudged to have fouled the Stanley striker just inside the area but Daniel Ventre sent his penalty kick high over Ben Hinchliffe's bar.
Around ten minutes later though, Stanley netted their second when David Chapman was controversially ruled onside and he slotted low under the body of Hinchliffe from twelve yards.
With five minutes remaining Tranmere had three chances to level. Paul Henry and James combined with the former forcing a fine save out of Fearon. The ball fell to winger Paul Barratt, who was on trial from Liverpool, but his shot was also kept out by the keeper and Gornell could only hit the bar from the rebound.
With the game in injury time and even Hinchliffe inside the Accrington area for a free kick, Rovers were denied a penalty for a clear pull on the shirt of Gornell and the visitors held on for the points.

Tranmere: Hinchliffe, Denson, Holmes, Johnston, Cresswell, Blundell (Macauley 77), Henry, Ferguson, Barratt, Gornell, James. Substitutes not used: McWeeney, McGarry, Fraughan, Taylor.
