Yeah but they were part of the constabulary rather than the army.

Re: Black &Tan

ok the black and tans were "special constables" in the employ of the Royal Irish Constabulary.
that were recruited from british troops, they were still seen as an occupying "army" by the republicans, because they were British rather than Irish.

but they were not in the employ of the British Army.

point clarified, i hope

was still guiness n bitter lol

Black & Tan = Pale ale & Guinness, The Pale Ale is poured first, then the Guinness poured slowly over the back of a spoon so the 2 Beers stay separated.

As to the Black & Tans.

I dont remember the bar-men at the Derby being sophisticated in those days to be able to find a spoon never mind pour it over one.

Oh ... and I remember Black and Tan as half best bitter and half Guinness. What were the words in that song about Liverpool? Something like "there's lots of girls with peroxide curls; and the black and tan flows free.?" Anyone remember Black Velvet? Half Guiness and half cider?
My wife and I used to spend one night a week in the Village Blacksmith playing darts late 1950s

Re: Black &Tan

First had Black and Tan in the Hope and Anchor, Bitter and Draught Guinness. Another one, but not my preference at all was Black Velvet, Cider and stout I believe

The real Black Velvet was Guinness and Champagne - Deutche(DinG ?) Sec made a good and more reasonably priced substitute and you get seriously blitzed on that - suffered quite a few times.
