Happy St. Swithin's Day.

'St. Swithin's Day, if it does rain,
Full forty days, it will remain,
St. Swithin's Day, it will be fair,
For forty days, t'will rain no more.'

Oh hek, raining down here ...

Re: weather??

Not too much happening with the weather over here, not locally anyway ... in Kingston it has been right on "normal for the time of year" all summer .... there have been a few tornados in Ontario, one resulting in four deaths when the funnel touched down at a fishing camp ... but Ontario is a big piece of real estate, and the worst we have had is the odd storm tracking through.

I love hot and muggy weather .. am I weird ?

Going back to St. Swithin's just found this ... hadn't heard it before:

Apples and St. Swithuns
"St Swithin is christening the apples"
Brand, Popular Antiquities, 1813, i, 342
There is an old saying when it rains on St. Swithin's Day, it is the Saint christening the apples.
Apple growers ask St. Swithin for his blessing each year because they believe:
  • Rain on St. Swithin's day 'blesses and christens the apples'.
  • No apple should picked or eaten before July 15th.
  • Apples still growing at St Swithin's day will ripen fully.

Only about 25 here, but this close to the lake with a strong wind from the SW, if feels like 35 ... the wind should change tomorrow; good, clean Canadian air from the NW.
