i read chaz1975's thread .. and it took me back to 1981 .. that was the year for weddings ... di & charles wedding was nowt compared to what we had ... 3 weddings in 6 months!!! ... My brother & his now ex got wed in June, my sister & her now ex got wed in september and then my big sis & her hubby got wed in december ... it was party time!!!
My dad said we couldnt go to ireland that year on holiday .. said we couldnt afford it ... and then turned up one day after finishing work .. ethel get packed we're off to ireland ... ferries tomorrow at 6am .... mum was after him for that one .. no warning no nothing .. but only for a week .. he couldnt afford it ... cos of the weddings ..
I was a bridesmaid at my brothers wedding .. it was funny .. there was 4 of us .. my niece, another little girl daughter of one of her friends (both blonde haired, same height, same age etc .. matching pair), then me who at the age of near enough 14 was taller than the bride
and also taller than the other bridesmaid (one of the brides friends with brown hair another matching pair near enough ..except for the height and age).. mum got the order .. i had to have white flat ..as flat as you could get sandals ... Well could we find any .. and our bridesmaids dresses were all being made for us ... all except mine was made ... because we'd not been able to find any white sandals with a flat heel ... The other bridesmaid who was my matching pair had got the highest heels that she could find and walk in ... so hers was being made .. Anyway i got dragged into manchester .. by my sis .. got a day off school .. and we found a pair of flat white shoes .. cost £30 ... there was a mark on em .. and they didnt have another pair in my size .. so they got knocked down in price .. by a fiver ... that was the first time id seen my sis in action .. shes the shopper from hell .. this was 2 weeks before the wedding ..
The day of the wedding it was fine .. Everything went off ok tho and off to calfs head at worston i think it was called .. and then it was party time .. we had the irish contingent over as well .. so it was irish party time ... and as everyone knows .. the irish know how to party ... They also came over for my sisters in september ..
Then we went to ireland .. coming back on the ferry there were quite a few people on there .. they were coming over to go to london and it was a party atmosphere on there .. Everybody got given a day off for charlie & di's wedding ... but my dad went to work .. he said he needed to - to pay for the weddings .. and he was self employed so wouldnt get paid for it ... but me and mum watched it all on the telly .. mum had the remote .. and kept flicking channels to see which side had the best coverage!!!
Then it was my sisters wedding .. that was over at stonefold as well ... that was the morning when they couldnt get into the church to do the flowers .. and my dad was running all over the place trying to get a key for the church .. the vicar was changing .. and they'd forgotten about the wedding!!!
Anyway it was all sorted .. we all had a nice time .. especially the irish contingent .. the reception was down at the old mill in rammy .. My outfit came from gene sutcliffe in accy ... £50 for a dress .. and i only wore it that once ... it was lilac .. with black trimmings ...
Then it was december .. and big sis was getting married .. though hers was different .. it was over 2 days .. Friday at hassy registry office .. and saturday was the blessing at st thomas's musbury .. Friday was the day hassy bypass opened .. and my dad overtook the official opening contingent .. up and down the bypass that day .. The police werent right happy neither were the opening bit .. it was funny .. up and down that bypass a few times ... It was all good fun .. we had two parties .. one after the registry office .. down at my sisters .. the other big do was after the blessing on the saturday ... which of course the irish contingent was over for ..
