Seeing as it is Saturday, we blow the dust off our bus pass and travel out and about.
It looked a bit of an 'ordinary' day.....a bit grey and overcast...but we set off in good spirits.
'Where to'he enquires?
'Well, let's get to Preston and decide' says I.
So Preston it was....for starters.
He had talked about going to St Annes. I had told him of a fish and chip eatery that was sooo good, he wanted to tatse their delights......but, I knew that the shops there wouldn't set him alight...or float his boat.
The bus for Southport was in, and so was the bus to Blackpool....he asked where we should go. I said Southport.
I know he loves to go down Lord Street and look at all the fancy jewellers and watch shops...planning how he will spend the money when his ship comes in(so far all that comes in is the tide).
I was also hoping that he might just treat me...seeing as it had been our 47th wedding anniversary during the week(more of that in another blog). It was a faint hope, but a hope, it was!
So we joined the queue of those getting on the X2.
Whilst on the bus a man in the seat in front of us took to my husband......and they chatted amiably all the way to Southport.
I don't want to sound unkind, but the man was one of those souls who are cared for in the community.....but my husband can talk to anybody, and he seems quite comfortable talking to folk like this man or old dears who are hard of hearing.
Pretty soon we were getting off the bus and strolling down a leafy Lord St.
We gazed in a lot of windows and drooled over some very pricey stuff...jewellery for me(diamonds as big as pigeons eggs...obscene they were)...and himself drooled over prestige watches.
Neither of us got anything...we just window shopped.
Lunchtime arrived and it was Fish and chips he was lusting after......we walked down Nevill Street, and went into the sitdown part of the chippy we have visited over the last couple of visits.
Himself had seen the size of the fish they served in the restaurant bit, and he wanted some of that for his dinner.
I saw a fish being served to a diner and it looked like Moby Dicks bigger brother, so I opted for a Seniors portion.
The girl told me that it would be a half portion of fish and chips.....I told her that it would do me as I only have one belly.
Himself decided that he too would have the smaller portion of food.
When it came the fish was cooked to perfection, the batter was as light as angels kisses, and so crisp that the knife fairly crunched through it...the chips were a pale gold and the peas, well... they could have done with a wee bit of salt at the end of cooking, but I could easily add that myself.
In no time at all old greedy guts had finished his food, but I was still savouring mine.
This is a mistake, because he kept trying to snaffle the chips off my plate...and he did succeed on two occasions, at his third attempt he was givien a very growly warning......'do that again and you will be in A&E having the prongs of a fork removed from the back of your hand'.
The warning was heeded.....and I finished off my dinner in peace.
We took a walk along the Esplanade and I took some pictures ...these can be seen in Today in Pictures thread.
I enjoyed my day out and we didn't get back home until nearly five pm...just in time for tea and a slice of cake.
