A busy week.......

This time last week I was feeling pretty glum. It was my Ruby Wedding Anniversary and it passed at our house without a mention. I had bought hubby a card, but was damned if I was going to give it to him and it be the only one on the mantelpiece. I was thinking to myself.......'40 Bl**dy years, and it doesn't even get a mention' I felt like it wasn't very important to the old grumble guts........I felt like I wasn't very important to old grumble guts either.........Now, I should say at this point that I am not big on celebrations.....and I have NEVER......EVER had a big party in my honour....not for my twentyfirst.....not for my Wedding.......Silver Wedding....nothing. I just don't like all that fuss. However, I do like to feel wanted and i like to get cards and good wishes. Having said that, the only one I really care about is the one from himself. My daughter usually prompts her dad on birthdays and anniversaries....but she was in the throes of packing up to move house....so her head was full of other more important things.
So the day passed without a mention. Wednesday I was very off hand and generally pi**ed off with his nonchalant behaviour.......and I couldn't bear to talk to him very much (yeah....childish I know)......while he didn't even seem to notice the 'cold shoulder'.
We had promised to have our daughters little boy so that she could get on with things in preparation for the move.......and it was good for me because I had something else to focus on.
Thursday morning dawned and I got up bleary eyed......I didn't sleep well because I kept thinking of how hurt I felt (daft old bird)....anyway i looked on the mantelpiece and.............. there was a card. I hurried off upstairs to get my card out and handed it to himself and said 'Happy Anniversary for Tuesday!'
'It wasn't on Tuesday, was it' he said........ 'of course it was Tuesday'
He then went on to apologise and say he hadn't done it intentionally....then followed it up with his stock phrase 'well, it's no big deal...is it?'
Well, yes.......... it was a big deal to me! After 40 years he still can't get it right.
I told my daughter and she apologised too......saying that she had been so busy with arranging things that it had slipped her mind as well.
Anyway, it's gone now.
The move....well, that was something. They were hoping to get the keys to the new house on Friday afternoon....but the people who were moving out didn't get thier keys until late afternoon....this meant that the plan to move some of the stuff on Friday evening was cactus'd.
I had said I would have both of the children Saturday....and I would make some hot food for their tea.
It was planned to have all the stuff moved by about five in the evening....well, that didn't happen....the guy who was lending a helping hand had to disappear to pick his daughter up from kirkham....so they lost a couple of hours during the afternoon....and it was 7pm before all the furniture was moved........and the beds still had to be put together and made.......there were packing cases all over the house....nothing was where it should have been. This wasn't because of any lack of organisation on my daughters part. She had labelled all the boxes carefully.....with what room they were to go to....but all this was ignored by her hubby and his helpmate.....they just dumped the boxes in the downstairs rooms.....thinking that it could all be sorted later on in the day.
This infuriated daughter.....and she is not pleasant when she is infuriated........I wonder where she inhereited that trait?
They came to our house at just after 7pm to have their tea. I had made a beef casserole and some creamy mash......both children were bathed and ready for bed........the eldest one we were keeping with us as he had bounced all the life out of his cotbed and it wouldn't go back together again......and his new bed hadn't been delivered.
I went over to the new house to find son-in-law sweating profusely....and I think there was a bit of swearing (under his breath) as he put their bed together......he still had to put the cot together for the baby...now, I would have put the cot together first, so that the baby could be put to bed.....but I was loathe to say anything in case he strangled me.
Both daughter and son-in-law were absolutely mashed.
I said that we would have both of the children again on the Sunday....and that they could come over for a roast dinner.......which they were very happy to do.......I sent some home made pasties across for them at lunchtime so that they could eat on the hoof....while they got some kind of order to the place.........all this helped just a bit. We had the children again on Monday.......by this time hubby was getting frazzled. He hasn't got a lot of patience...and they don't sell it in the shops. He was huffing and chuffing and sighing loudly....but he was lying on the settee at the time so I don't think it was the work he found trying....he didn't do any! This is the man who was desperate to be a G'dad....(me?....I would have given anything to avoid being one of those G things).
They still aren't straight, but they are getting there slowly......the good thing is that they are only a stride away from us....so we can look after the potlids for them while they sort themselves out.

Why wasn't I blessed with a mum like you!!!! only joking mine isn't a bad stick in the mud. At least I have one.
