Overflowing with Nothing........that is what I told Romps that I would get for Christmas.......and when Jen put a thread on about hiding your disappointment at receiving duff presents........I made mention of it then too.
Now I don't want you lot out there to think that I received absolutely nothing for Christmas....that would be a lie.
I received some lovely gifts(and I know that Christmas is about more than gifts)........one of the really special ones was a great chunk of nostalgia.........a trip back to 1965, courtesy of a Beatles CD 'Rubber Soul'........I had quite forgotten how much I loved their music.......so to hear it again transported me back to my youth.
I received some Clinique Aromatics too, The Delia Christmas Cookbook...bath stuff and books, a large scarf(animal print style)......and lots of other little goodies.
The big bagful of nothing came from himself......it isn't anything new, and it isn't exactly a surprise either. I got the same last year...but it was unwrapped. Not nearly so impressive when there is no fancy bow on it.
The thing about this getting nothing wouldn't be so bad if he didn't sort of gloat about it when friends ask what he bought me.
It is almost as if he is proud of not bothering to go out and buy me just something small.
He does not realise how very hurtful this is.
Almost as if he is saying I am not worth the effort.
Now don't get me wrong, he is not a skinflint.
He tells me that I can have whatever I want.
That is no consolation though, I would just like him for once to go out and buy me something.......Am I being unreasonable do you think?
Anyway, over the Christmas period, despite our very best efforts our boiler froze up...so we had no central heating.......we had to use halogen heaters......thank goodness for them.
I was permanently cold, and our bed was like an icebox.
I had almost as many clothes on to go to bed as I did to go out.
I am not a pyjama person......just the opposite. I usually have my undercarriage hanging out of bed because I am too warm!
Himself offered me a pair of his fleecy long johns to sleep in......but if I had needed to get up in the night, it was likely that I would have necked myself falling over the excess length.
So on Wednesday we went to Bury Market.
When we set off I told myself that if I saw any fleecy PJ's I was going to buy myself some.
The trip on the bus was an eye-opener.......there was still snow and ice from Haslingden to Ramsbottom......and I'm not talking just a little bit...it was thick and dirty.
The market wasn't as busy as I had expected, but then quite a few of the stalls had closed because of burst pipes.
Walking around the stalls I spotted a pair of very fluffy, very pink PJ's.......I hesitated. I am not a pink person, I am not a fluffly person.
We went and had lunch and I mulled over these PJ's. If I bought them and wore them I would look like an oversized marshmallow.
I didn't know what to do......then I asked myself 'Who the heck is going to see you in them?'
I answered myself back 'Himself'......then 'does it matter what he thinks you look like?'
In a word 'NO'
So I went back to the stall and bought them.
And I bought them in a size bigger than I need just in case it gets colder. I can put another pair of jim jams underneath them(bought some more today).
When we got home from Bury he asked me if I liked my present.....bl**dy cheek...I paid for them myself!
So I am sat here looking like a big fluffy marshmallow...all pink and squishy...but at least I am warm
Happy New Year folks!
