Isn't 'Perfect' a subjective word....?
Everywhere I look it seems there are magazine articles on having a perfect Christmas......tips on how to cook the perfect Christmas Dinner.....tips on how to go down a dress size and look 'Perfect' in that little black dress......how to choose the perfect present........and how to wrap it perfectly......but what is 'Perfect'?
To a pensioner a perfect Christmas may consist of seeing a living person rather than just the news reader on TV.......having enough money to put the heating on and keep warm.....having a proper warm dinner.
To a poor family with children.....it may be having enough money to buy the kids a little present.....to be able to decorate a tree......to have a hot nourishing meal, though it might not be turkey and all the trimmings.
To the homeless it may be having a roof over their head on Christmas day.....a pair of shoes that don't leak.......an overcoat that keeps out the chill wind.....a cup of hot soup and a sandwich maybe all they can expect.
To those people who are living with illness and disability.....a perfect Christmas would be one where they didn't have to depend or rely on other people to carry out the most basic of human tasks.......
To those people with cancer or a life shortening illness it would be to be free of the worry of their disease and its consequences. And to the families of those people it would be to have their loved one back in robust health.
To the mothers who do not know where their child is.....a perfect Christmas would be a phone call or a visit from that child,or at least news of their child.
To all those who are estranged from the people they love... through family arguments /disagreements.....it would be to hear the words 'I'm sorry' or to say the words 'I'm sorry' and patch up the differences.
To all those mothers who lose a baby or child at Christmas.....for them a perfect Christmas would be to hold their child in their arms again......and for them the Christmas story will always have a poignancy that the rest of us can only ever imagine.....and for them will hold a sadness that lasts forever.
When you plan your Christmas remember it might not be perfect, and things may not go quite according to plan.....but there are people in the world who would happily swap places with you.....think of them and thank your lucky stars for the good gifts of family, friends, good health and the food that is on your table.
I hope all of you who read this stuff have a Joyous and Peaceful Christmas.
