A welcome break..

A week last Sunday me and Sparks went to Lanzarote for a welcome break. We'd booked it online a couple of weeks earlier and I was really looking forward to the break. I usually object to having to get up at 4am but I do tend to make an exception for holidays.

We managed to arrange flights with Thomas Cook and we managed to get really good flight times. That was really the best thing about the flights, the seat pitch on TC airlines is next to nowt. A small child may find them comfy but unfortunately a couple of tallish adults like us found that our knees were crushed up against the seat in front of us. The bad thing about this airline, and no doubt many others is that they charge for everything individually. It was £12pp for a meal on the plane!!!!! We didn't bother with that, my attitude being that I'm not paying £12 for that swill, and believe me, it did not look appetising when they brought the meals round so we definitely made the right decision.

There is also a charge if you want seats together!!!!! We didn't bother with that either and decided to take our chances. Luckily we were sat across the aisle from each other but we got the feeling that if you hadn't paid the extortionate fee then they made sure that you were sat apart.

The worst thing was an extra squeeze for your luggage. We were restricted to 15kgs but if we stumped up an extra £20 or so each, we could have 20kgs!!!! I am more than accustomed to travelling light and so is Sparks, our combined luggage weighed 21kgs. I heard people complaining at the airport on the way back because they'd been charged a fortune for their excess baggage. Believe me, if you haven't paid to upgrade to 20kgs and you are a kg overloaded, they will stiff you on it.

What has happened to holiday companies and airlines????? In an attempt to entice holidaymakers they advertise their flights at rock bottom prices then bump them up with the extras. By the time you have paid for the extras you may as well have got an all in deal from the travel agent. Take my advice.....don't fall for this. A short haul flight is totally do-able without sub-standard food, take a sandwich. A week away in the sun can be done on minimal luggage, I could have taken what I wore in a carrier bag.

More on Lanzarote later.... I have some washing to sort out:rolleyes:
