I saw him a month or so ago wandering round the "sunday car boot" in accy. It was snowing at the time and he had his hanky on, my brother and I were a little bit confused by him, being snow and not sun lol
 
Actually "Uncle Dick" came from Blackpool, his assistants at Accrington were his wife "Sadie" and Brother in Law "Fred". before he came to the markets he worked on the golden mile at Blackpool.

Still worked on the Golden Mile when he was also standing Accrington market
 
was making a pilgrimage to the Railway at lunch, n sat on the fire escape at the rear of the owd "Miners" Club, munching a pastie wi his dog n pushbike was Isacc, one of accys proper characters from the 60s n still is.:D

must have been around 1978 when me and a mate were knocking on doors looking for work painting and stuff... got a job at some place behind the old Wharburtons to paint the front on a building...anyway we were in the Tramway and told Isaac we had the job but no ladders...a couple of days later we turn up to paint the place and there's Isaac up on a ladder and he's near enough painted the gaff!..He'd been round and told em he could do a better job cheaper..!bloody highway robbery..:D:D

seems Isaac is Accys own Keith Richards ... probably going to out-live everyone , wonder if his mate Sgt. Standring (sp?) is still about :D ;) ;)

Certainly was. He used to go in the Rose and Crown now and then when Ted and Isobel had it. He'd been promoted to Inspector by then.

Ah you mean Detective Chief Inspector Ken Standring, formally of Accrington CID, has been retired for a long time now yerself, the last I heard he was living in Whalley. Ken was a good friend of mine in the days when the police used to drink in the Hargreaves Arms in the 70s, was one of the lead detectives on the Black Panther case, lived up Hardcoat Road at the time, I did a lot of joinery work on the house for him

D.S. Ken Standring transferred oer to burnley, early 70s i think, to make the Dingles lives a misery.:rolleyes:
