Accy Characters

Hi Keith do remember you just looked at your photo. I think your Jean was nearer my age. I used to live near the Sacred Heart on Blackburn Road. Do you remember the Flynn family. Dad Charlie quite a character. I love in Australia now have been here for 42 years but coming HOME this year. I live in Coffs Harbour so not that far from you. Been reading all the nostalgia today about Uncle Dick and Sadie. Joe Morts etc. Went back in 2007 ?what happened. The market is not the same. No fish stalls or tripe barrows. Missed the smell of the bacon in Redman's. Things aint what they used to be.
Littlepom.

Just looked at the series of photos covering the Market refurbishment - where am i going to get my toasted currant teacake bacon sarnie now? - one of the reasons for having a couple of weeks at home.

Think they do them in the cafe in the market, will find out for you:)

Thanks Bernie, used to get them in the inside cafe across from the cold meat stall on the left hand side as you go in from Blackburn Rd LOL
More or less sure the cafe near the rear door have them on the menu but if not sure we will find them somewhere for you:rolleyes:

my memory of betty birtwistle was her walking up first blackburn road then abbey street every morning towards the palmer riley electric distributors shop where she worked for quite a while sure george walker can confirm we have mentioned betty on different threads quite some time ago

I went back in July 1998, was terribly disapointed, everything seemed to be dull as if the life had been sucked out of the old town. Took me a long time to find a stall at the back of the Market Hall which sold tripe. What ever happened to those tripe dressers at the side of the Hall. Isn't anything sacred anymore

Yes Jack was very handy but unlike a few in Accrington in the early 60's he never looked for bother but neither did he run away from it, much to the discomfort to those that annoyed him.
Jack passed away, its in todays obsevor, funeral July 5th 3-00 accy crem. picture in paper, its the guy i used to know. R.I.P. Jack.

I remember the Polish guy and I think your right Atarah he was called Joseph.  He used to sit infront of the Market Hall and very often with a very short man.

I am sure Joseph came from Clayton we used to see him coming up from the bottom end said hello to him many a times and got the salute from him lol.
