And More.

When we came out of the Radio City tower, we decided we would cut through St John's shopping centre....to Queen street Bus station. We thought we would catch the Hop on bus there, but could not find the stop.
So we headed over to St Johns Gardens.
There was a bus heading towards the stop outside the World museum....but we missed it by a whisker as no one was getting off.
So we spent a little time in the gardens and we listened to a busker playing a ukulele.

Soon we spotted another bus heading our way....by this time it was almost 3 pm...so riding on the bus was a good way of killing two birds with one stone....it allowed us to see more of the city....and also to rest out aching hocks.

The bus took us past the Adelphi Hotel, where we were to get the coach for our trip home.
We decided that we would stay on the bus until it got back to the Adelphi again....we just hoped it would be before the 4pm deadline.

So we sailed past both Cathedrals, past the pub where the legendary Maggie May(lady of the night)sold her wares.....we saw the statue on the Lewis building....the Resurgence.
A naked man on the prow of a ship....we were told that the naked man had to be repositioned because when it rained the water ran off his dangly bits onto the shoppers below(he was over the main doorway of the shop).
That shoppers were not in favour of being peed on by the statue.

We saw the pub where John Lennon liked to have a pie and a pint(the Philharmonic Dining Rooms....very ornate inside)...we were told that the men's lavvy in this pub were so beautiful that you could go in just to see them...pink marble(seems a bit of a waste of marble).
We headed into China town to see the largest Chinese Arch in Europe....said to have been donated by the Chinese government....shipped over in pieces with workmen to put it together in the traditional way.....and they did tell us how many dragons were depicted on the arch, alas I have forgotten that crumb of information.
We then went through the Baltic triangle.
Did you know that the favour Liverpool dish of 'scouse' is named after a Norwegian dish?
And that if you ask what is in it....we'll, everything fromthe leftovers of that pan of scouse with an extra spud for luck.....and that meat free scouse is called 'blind scouse'.....that bit I DID know.
Then we went past Cains brewery.....Founded by a young Irish brewer Robert Cain....the business grew and grew, and it was taken over by some of the larger brewers(boddingtons was one of these).
The brewery folded in 2013 with debts of 8 million quid.

Then we were back to Albert Dock.
It was 3.30. Tyler got a bit twitched because he thought we would not get back up to the Adelphi for 4pm. That we would be left in Liverpool.

I told him to stop sweating...we would be back in time for the bus.
It still did not stop him getting twitchy.

In the end we were back at the Adelphi just as the coach was pulling out of a side street.

So in no time at all we were leaving Liverpool having had a great day out.

So we did not get to do all that we wanted, or all that we planned...it just means that we have a good reason to go on another trip.

I hope you enjoyed being taken with us on our jaunt....and that you enjoyed the snippets of information....it just shows that I WAS listening.

Another little snippet of Scouse mythology for you Ma, two old ducks from the Welsh valleys were up in the city for a visit, one old girl says to the other,

"look you, that statue over the shop, it's Lewiss's!"

the reply from the other old dear,

"No, I'm not having none of that, it's more like Owen Owens's!".

:)

I saw that statue on my travels....as you know....and loved the bits of information delivered by this slip of a boy....with the kind of humour that is the hallmark of a scouser.
We had a really great day of it....it all came to an end far too soon.

But towards th end of Next year we(my sister, brother in law and niece) will be gathered in Liverpool for MA's Memorial service at the Anglican Cathedral....so we plan to have a couple of joyous days in her memory....will stay somewhere nice....might even get a bit legless....see the sights and generally celebrate the old birds passing out parade....her graduation.
