The tinlids thought they were having just a day at Llandudno.
Nicola and I had to get our heads together......out of earshot of MissBD...she has a sense of hearing like a bat.......I swear she could hear a cockroach trump!
Nicola said she was going to tell the pair of them that she would pack a change of clothes in case they got wet.....oh yes, and extra stuff in case it suddenly turned arctic.
I said I would pack my little weekend bag, but tell the tinlids that it had our picnic in it......cups, plates, glasses....lots of grub.
Last Friday there was great excitement.....and they were talking about what they were going to do on their day out.......there was so much stuff......I told them that there would not be time to do all that, in just one day.
Miss BD asked if we could perhaps stay somewhere just for the night.....'no' says I 'everything will be booked up', remember it is the school holidays.
Her face fell.
The during the evening Mrs Hughes phoned me and told us that we could have access to the house from 1.30 in the afternoon.
I rang Nicola to tell her this.....she said we would set off at midday........I could hear Miss BD in the background saying 'that's not a full day...we should be going in the morning'.
Nowt gets past her.
I trundled across the road at about 11.30.
The tinlids wanted to say goodbye to grandad.
I told them it wasn't necessary as they would see him again tomorrow......'but I want to go and say bye bye' said Miss BD.
On leaving our house, my next door neighbour came to the door with some spending money for them......so they were glad that they had come over.
They were quiet on the journey down......and both of them knew the way. I told them that who-ever saw the sea first could buy the lunch.
'We've got your picnic to eat' said Spindles...
'Oh yes, but we might be tempted by fish and chips' says I......'and anyway we can have the picnic for tea'
I asked them if they would like to go and meet Mrs Hughes when we got to Llandudno......and ask if we could look at the house that we should have stayed in?
'Yes' they both said.
Greg asked me if I knew the way. 'But of course' I said.....I gave him directions.
There was a note on the door of number 19, telling me that Mrs Hughes was at Number 6.......getting that house ready for visitors too.
I knocked at the door......you could hear the vacuum cleaner growling away behind the door.
Mrs Hughes came to the door, she smiled and greeted me warmly.....asked me to wait a tick, while she turned off the cleaner and locked the door.
We went across the street and she let us in.
The house was beautiful, modern, but with a kind of quaintness. There was some home made Bara brith on the table, and biscuits for the children too. A pint of fresh milk in the fridge.....teabags and sugar all ready for us to make a refreshing cup of tea. How thoughtful.
Mrs Hughes asked if we would like to be shown around.
The children dashed up the stairs like frightened rabbits...we were shown the bedrooms(all colour co-ordinated...duvets and matching curtains) and the bathroom(clean as a new pin....fluffy towels), then we were taken out the back to the utility room. The back yard had a wooden bench and a patio table and chairs.....it was a suntrap.
It was at this point we let the children in on our little ruse.
Their faces lit up and they both had beaming great smiles.......Mrs Hughes left us to get settled in.
The tinlids went up to the attic (a lovely bright room)bedroom...which was to be theirs...and they chose which bed they were going to have.
They were enthralled because there was a TV in their room....much less thrilled when I couldn't get it to work......No signal....Grrr.
So that was the very start of our week.
There will be more........with pictures!
