awake in the night.....

Ma went off to sleep very easily, my bit of reading was serenaded by the gentle purring of Zzzzzzzz's.
I really don't mind this. It means that Ma is alive. I hope that doesn't sound macabre. It isn't meant to be.
Every time we come back from these little breaks, Ma admits to wondering if it will be her last one.....being the age she is, she is aware of her mortality......and praises the powers that be every morning she wakes up and finds she is not mentioned in the 'Obits' column.

I also dropped off to sleep reasonably quickly...it was the Z's and the waves lapping the beach below us that did it for me......Oh, and maybe pushing Ma around and down the hill had a bit to do with it.

2am arrived and saw us both awake.
The cheesy fritters had given Ma indigestion......and nightmares!
She said that she had dreamed that she was working at School(she used to be a school caretaker) and she found a badly injured cat in the school. This cat had poo'd all over the place.(?TMI)
Ma said that the dream was so realistic that she could even smell the cat poo......she woke in a bit of a panic thinking she might have disgraced herself.

The indigestion was a secondary issue.
I woke up to hear her rummaging in her handbag in search of a packet of mints to relieve the gut ache(ah, so she wasn't quite as adept as I thought - if you have read my earlier blog you will know exactly what i mean by this...especially if I mention Paul Daniels:D).

I put the light on and asked what she was looking for.
'Mints' was the reply.
'Why?' I asked.
'Them bl**dy Cheesy fritters are playing football inside me' she said.

I got out of bed and reached into the wardrobe for my little green homeopathic remedies case.......and got out the Carbo Veg......I dropped one into the cap of the bottle and told Ma to open her mouth.
I plopped the little pillule into her mouth and told her to let it dissolve.
In just a few minutes the indigestion was gone.
But we were both wide awake......and talking about the cheesy fritters......Ma observed that the appearance should have told her not to eat them.
They were round, a little larger than a golf ball and a little bit more than golden brown, but not quite burnt.
Ma said they tasted neither of cheese or potato......and she had two of them on her plate......needless to say after eating one, she foisted the other one off on me.
She was right...it was a savoury flavour, but not easily identified.
I ate mine but made a mental note that if they came up on the menu again, I would avoid them.

I told ma that we needed to stop talking and settle down for some more shut-eye as we were going out on the coach at 9.30 and that I had planned for us a full day of entertainment.
