Thank you to H.R. for offering to allow me to take down her decorations.....oh yeah and to help me polish off my bottle of Baileys......you're in a queue for both of those things.
I would happily take down your decorations.....BUT....there's always a but, isn't there? I know which boxes all mine go back into.....and how the little boxes fit inside the big box......it is a bit like doing a jigsaw....get it wrong and they don't all go back into the big box......and then they won't fit into the allotted space in the back wardrobe. How anal is that?
When I was working at the hospital I used to get really angry if people didn't put the Christmas stuff away tidily.......I made them sign the boxes so that when we came to take them out the following year.....if they were in a mess, or worse BROKEN, I knew which culprit to blame. In many cases I would put them away myself. Every box was labelled with the contents so that when we were putting up the trees we knew which baubles went with which tree. When I look back I bet the staff thought I was a really sad person. Another thing I did not countenance was the decorations going up too early.....I always thought that a week before Christmas was plenty of time.....but the staff always wanted to put them up as sson as December was upon us. One year the decs were up in the first week of December and I made them take them all down. I had to impress upon the staff that it was a surgical ward and that the decs harboured dust.... therefore bacteria.....well, that was my reasoning.
They all thought I was carmudgeonly......and in some respects they were right.
Anyway, all my stuff is now down...the mantel trees were packed away this lunch time and I have to say that the place does look a bit bare.
Good luck to all of you out there who still have this job to do!
