The longer I live, the less I like Christmas.
The Christmas fairy gave me another large helping of carmudgeon this morning.
I woke up, it was dark.
I looked out of the window and saw the street was wet.
I would have loved to have got back into bed and pulled the duvet over my head, left a note that said 'Wake me when it is all over'.
I haven't bought many presents and up until last night I had wrapped nothing....zero, zilch.
Ma phoned to say that my brother would be visiting her house today with the gifts.
Drat, drat, double drat.
That meant I would have to sort out the presents for that bit of the family....search out the paper, the tags. You know the drill.
It did not fill me with any kind of warm fuzzy feeling.
Anyway, I did it. The gifts were put into a sparkly gold bag and left in the lobby ready to load into the car.
So that is a start I guess.
I will try and muster some enthusiasm and do some more later today(hopefully I can get up enough steam to do the lot).
I was talking to himself about the Christmas food.
I really did not want to cook a roast on Sunday and do it all again on Christmas Day.
We have been in this neck of the woods before.
I normally cook for us,my Ma and our elderly neighbour.
Sunday, I will do the meal for the 4 of us, but on Christmas Day my neighbour is being taken out.
Ma will have her meal taken up to her house, so I will be catering for just the two of us.
I suggested that I do something simple.
Himself said he would be quite happy with a home made Cottage pie...he didn't want to stuff his rops with enough food for a regiment.
So maybe we will be having a simplified meal...no turkey, sprouts, parsnips etc
Maybe he will settle for a steak dinner.
It will be less hassle, less washing up and I guess more enjoyable.
He said that if we do have this simple meal, not to tell anyone(!)
I don't get that. What does it matter to anyone else what we have for dinner...well, unless we are asking them to pay for it and cook it.
Anyway, a week from now and it will be gone!
