Well since my last few entries have been sent off into cyber heaven, I have decided not to rewrite them and just carry on where I would have done. And since I wasnt telling a tale or anything like Marg was then it doesn't really matter.
Todays entry is quite literally about what the title says. Balls. Now im not talking about the bouncy rubber kind that we throw around, im talking about a more personal kind. Mens balls, also known as testicles.
Now I hear you ask, why is he talking about this? Well sit back and I shall tell you.
Several years ago now I found a lump down below and after much visits to the hospital and doctors etc it was discovered to be a tumour. Of course what followed shortly afterwards was an operation to remove this and upon doing so it was discovered it was a Teratoma tumour, which is basic terms means it was cancerous. Now at 20 years of age you dont expect to be told you have just had a cancerous tumour taken from your body.
Luckily for me though I caught it early on and the cancer had not had time to advance to any other areas. I was then placed on a 'once monthly' scheme of visits to the hospital for blood tests and checks and x-rays as well as 3 monthly trips for CT scans (the dye you drink tastes like aniseed). This went on for just over 2 years, after that they begin reducing u to 3 months, then 6 months and now I just go once a year to Christies hospital in Manchester.
When I had my operation I was told by the doctor that Testicular cancer can happen to a man of any age, but is most prominent in the 15-30 year age range.
So if you are a man and reading this then all I can say is remember to check yourself regularly. And if you are a woman reading this, then tell your man to do so.
And another thing, dont be embarrassed about going to your doctor and getting your tackle out. When I think about how many doctors I had to see and still see, its really not that big of a deal. (No pun intended)

Thank you for pointing this out in such a frank & honest way, i worked with a young man who was in his early thirty's when he discovered his cancerous lump, unfortunatly he was dead within 6 months, leaving his young wife & baby,so please if your a MAN reading this heed g78, words, thank you once again

What wonderful advice......All men should pay attention.
Women are advised to do monthly breast examinations.....men should, likewise check their bits and pieces for any odd shaped lumps or bumps.
When I was a student nurse (not long after Florence.....Nightingale that is) I nursed a young man who went to his doctor because his groin felt 'heavy'......he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. So anything odd in the basement...get it checked guys!

Like someone else here who sent me a lovely PM, you make me feel ashamed about basing a lot of my persona around my illness.

Serious, important issue, but as always your humour shines through.

I often wonder how many of the men I see sporting yellow wristbands actually check themselves!Well done you for catching the disease in time;hope all is well with you now!
