Bang!

There was nothing on TV on Thursday evening(not that I am a great fan of TV anyway) so I thought I would have a shower, soak my feet, cut my toenails...do some running repairs.
I shampooed my hair with a new shampoo and then did the conditioning bit.
Wrapped my hair in a towel and went into the bedroom to do the moisturising of feet, legs and other bits(old skin gets very flaky in winter).
I was greased up like an oven ready turkey.....thankfully no-one could see me.

I went back in the bathroom and washed of this special conditioner and towelled dry my hair....back to the bedroom for the finishing touches.......a blow dry.
I combed the tangles out of my hair and sectioned it off ready for drying.....plugged in the hairdryer(a professional type model) and switched it on.
I had only been drying my hair for something like a couple of minutes when there was an almighty bang......it really made me jump.
There was an acrid electrical smell.
Damn and blast. I was nowhere near my polished best.
I took the hairdryer downstairs.
Himself was watching the video running on the back of his eyelids - yes, he was asleep.

He hadn't heard the bang(I fear that he will miss the last trump) and was surprised to see me in front of him in my flimsies(once upon a day that would have set his pulses racing, but now he doesn't bother) holding out my hairdryer and asking him to give it the once over - check the plug, the fuse....whatever it is that men do to mend things. I wanted him to do it - for me.

He put the hairdryer in the kitchen and said he would look at it later!
He said 'you must have another hairdryer - use that one'.
Yes I do have another hairdryer, my travel one. This is nowhere near as effective as the one I wanted him to look at.

He asked me what had happened to the hairdryer. I told him.
He said 'it sounds like you might have burnt out the motor'
'Look, it might be the fuse, or the wiring in the plug. Will you just check them out for me please?' I replied.

Anyway he didn't do the checking of my hairdryer until after we had shopped on Friday(I will remember his tardiness the next time the Sky signal goes).

He checked the wiring in the plug - it was OK.
He changed the fuse - he said it didn't look as though it was 'blown'. He switched it on and it didn't work.
He told me I was going to have to buy a new one...but also told me to plug it in and check for myself.
I did. It worked perfectly. He had only been pressing the 'cold shot' button to try to switch it on.
He told me afterwards that he very nearly cut off the electric cord and put it in the bin - seeing as, in his opinion,it was knackered. I'm just so glad he didn't.
Not having to buy a new one leaves me £40 better off.:)
