The TV licence money only goes to the BBC. It shouldn't be a case of having to do without a TV altogether. As in the case of the chicken. We may still wish to shop at Asda but simply not buy chicken and wouldn't be expected to pay for the thing we haven't got. So why can't we have an "opt-out" version of TV where if you don't pay a licence fee you don't get BBC. After all you have to subscribe to Sky in order to get sky channels so if they want the money let them work out a way of doing it.vorlon24 said:But chav, we do have a choice.
If you do not want to pay a tv licence, get rid of the tv. Simple, really!
Speaking of computers and taxes -- Our brilliant governor has taken offense to the notion that she may not be getting her fair share of the taxes on goods purchased by residents of the state of Michigan. Consequently, she has pushed through our state legislature something called a "Use Tax" which forces us to pay Michigan sales tax (currently 6%) for items purchased out-of-state either in person or via the internet regardless of whether sales tax was charged by the seller. One can either keep track of each and every purchase and provide paper documentation of each transaction or simply pay a flat rate fee based on one's income level. Since I can never be bothered to retain every receipt from every little purchase made when travelling and I, too, purchase a good deal of computer components over the internet, we bite the bullet and pay the flat fee.chav1 said:simple solution is to build your own custom pcs which besides been beter and cheaper than anything you can purchase at pc world or time etc ...
however they could put extra tax on pc parts but that wouldnt effect me as i can buy my parts cheaper from the usa and get my friends over there to mail them to me![]()
Rebates are a beautiful thing and I take advantage of them every chance I get. I just purchased an 80 gig hard drive for $30 after the $50 mail-in-rebate. A lot of the computer stores in my area will also offer "instant" rebates at the register for things like memory and media. Most of my CD-Rs are purchased that way.chav1 said:american companies sometimes have realy good offers icluding a rebate ststem where some of the money you spend is refunded after purchase
