It may well be the case that some of these women are not entitled to any benefits. I once looked after a lady whose husband was murdered in Pakistan. She fled the country with a small child and another on the way. She only had distant family in this country and although allowed to stay here, she was not entitled to anything. This lady did not beg, she was cared for by the community she lived in. She stayed in somebody's empty house, had no furniture and just the clothes she came here with. She did housework in return for food but despite her poverty would not entertain the idea of going back to Pakistan as she was frightened for her life.

I often wonder what became of her.

Of course and that is so easy and accessible for someone with a child to do- easy to not worry that your child will be taken into care for example and of course you would get so much help as a result. Getting back to reality this is simply not a viable option for many people.

I wouldn't have given her any money either, I would've directed her to Maundy Grange I think. The thought of someone coming to my door begging frightens me enough to report it to the police, if she's genuine then she'll get help.

Its not a viable option for people for a multitude of reasons- fear, lack of knowledge for example not necessarily because they are here illegally.

No there is a fear of engaging with governmnet departments and authority if your previous experience of authority is to avoid it at all costs because you might end up dead. I recently worked with a family of refugees from Rwanda who were in this country completely legally. They had not accessed virtually any of the support to which they were entitled nor had they reported 26 criminal offences committed against them- including the serious assault of the 14 year old son and an arson attack on their property- because they were literally terrified of any and all 'official' bodies. Part of this fear being borne of the fact that their previous involvement with the Police in their own country had resulted in the gang rape of the Mother and the 13 year old daughter of the family.

The motivation for these offences for anyone interested was of course that they were 'illegal immigrants, coming over here taking our jobs, spongeing of us as taxpayers' etc. etc. the usual ignorant racist bull****. I ultimately also worked with 6 of the offenders responsible for the majority of these offences all of whom were between 16 and 29 and none of whom could actually point to Rwanda on a map.

When I was in school I was taught that Rwanda was a Belgium colony/protectorate, so where are the historic links ? unlike with the folks from commonwealth countries where there may be a moral obligation to offer some aid , though I'm not sure about this , since its not that long ago they were dancing in the streets and demanding Independance and the British out .
Same with the Serbs/Croats/Bosnians, these folks should be Turkeys problem (original colonial owners) How do these people get to the UK in the first place, surely Britian isn't the first country they enter after leaving their homeland , ( just checked and niether British Airways nor easyjet have direct flights to the UK)

To get homes [better than those they get at home or possibly in safe other countries, the benefit system, donations, access to services & work etc etc

They interviewed immigrants passing thro france & they said they want to go to the UK cos the uk will provide them with a better life, security, housing, etc even said that the uk was paved with gold for them

I hazard a guess that this symbol means that you dont understand. I think you probably need to read a better paper and consider the levels of assault, arson attack etc committed against the immigarnt populations in these countries (and yes this does happen in Britain as well). Also consider the wider support the far right has in these countries.

According to an earlier post you effectively said people are too terrified to live here so what makes the French and Germans any worse. I tend not to read papers, most of the stuff is made up, so I always look forward to the facts from people like yourself who have been at the coalface so to speak.
