what have i been up to? not much really ... Ive finally done all the windows and net curtains and theres daylight back in my house now ... so thats a good thing ... The gardens finished .. plants well most of em are in .. will do the rest when ive sweet talked bro into taking me to brookside to get some more compost. Tidied up a bit and found something that i thought had gone to my brothers ... but ive still got it .. but there is a nice story behind it.
What i found was a poster advertising jack charlton at the burnley mechanics. Some years ago when mum was still alive and kicking .. she used to listen to radio lancs all day every day ... and so by default i did as well .. mind you if i do have the radio on its tuned into there now have never swapped it over. Anyway in the afternoons there were always quizzes on and one day there were 2 tickets up for grabs to go and see jack charlton at the burnley mechanics. Mum was sat here listening to it ..i know the answer ring in .. and enter .. so i did do. Didnt think id win .. but i did do. Now who do i take .. mum would have liked to have gone but all the stairs .. and her either in her wheelchair or with the walking frame there was no way she could have gone .. plus we'd have needed more tickets and it was sold out .. so she said take your brother...and of course he said yes ... i'll be there ..pick you up etc .. With mum shouting get jackies autograph for me ...ringing in our ears off we went.
Well it was brilliant .. first half he was sat in the middle of the stage on a stool ...and spotlight on him .. telling us what it was like growing up with bobby knowing he was a football player etc what it was like in the pits, then getting scouted etc .. and what it was like being a footballer then and world cup and being manager of ireland... He told us the story of falling asleep when the ireland team had an interview with the pope when they got thro to the world cup finals which was funny ... 2nd half it was a question and answer session .. anybody could shout out a question and he'd do his best to answer it.
Anyway we knew we had to get his autograph .. mum would have had something to say about it if we came home without it .. Then it was over and Jack disappeared and we missed the chance to get his autograph ... So brother nicked a poster advertising him at the burnley mechanics ... i had a pen in my handbag .. and brother wrote on the poster Ethel .. from jack charlton ...
Oh my mum was over the moon .. we'd got his autograph .. and was bragging about it to everyone .. carers, family, friends .. she was pleased as punch .. Me and brother were cringing every time she mentioned it .. Anyway it got rolled up and forgotten about till now ... I thought i'd given it to my brother after she'd died .. but i hadnt .. but i will do now ...
