There is a small piece of land near where we live.
It has been empty for many years.....it must be in excess of ten years.
A couple of years ago we were told it had been sold and someone was going to build a care home on it.......the local residents were not very pleased and objected to the development...not that it made any difference.....the plans went through(though they had to be altered somewhat).........nothing seemed to be happening, then we heard that these developers had dropped out...after they had chopped all the mature trees down(travesty).
The land was back on the market again earlier this year at a hefty price.
A few weeks later we had heard it had been sold, and that 9 houses were going to be built on it(planning permission granted).......maybe they are going to be dolls houses...it really is quite small.
It is also perilously close to an electricity substation......I certainly wouldn't want one of those in my back yard.
At the beginning of the week large earth moving equipment was delivered and the bumps bangs and tremors started...as these earth movers started to clear what was left of the earthworks on the site...and the shrubbery. I don't quite know how my next door neighbour has coped as he is right next to the building site.......!
Now recently there has been quite a sharp decline in the housing market.Large building companies like Barretts have been laying folk off, right left and centre.
The credit squeeze has meant that many building projects have already been 'mothballed'....one of them as close as Mill Hill in Blackburn.
Mortgages are difficult to come by, and I have noticed that I no longer get bumf through the post to encourage me to take out a loan or apply for a credit card.
It strikes me as a little bit odd that this builder is going ahead with a project that may mean he has money tied up in assets that will be difficult to liquidate...and what is worse he may actually lose money.
I'll just be glad when the development is finished and my plates stop jigging around in the cupboards.
