coming home inevitably means catching up with stuff that has piled up while I have been away.....washing is one of those things. I told hubby just to leave everything......he is a bit of a disaster with the washing machine. When I was away in Oz for five weeks I labelled the drawer on the washer.....I put a sticker on the easiest program and left him detailed instructions......I don't know why I bother to leave instructions because he is physically and mentally incapable of following instructions.....are all men the same?????
To be honest I didn't really care because the only stuff he would be washing were his own clothes and he doesn't care if the dye runs into things. I knew he would not change the bed or wash the bedding.... but I told him that if he did, it all had to be washed separately......and I qualified what separately means......nothing other than sheets and pillow cases.
While I was away this time he never made the bed.....he must have got out in a morning and then crawled back into the same hole again at night.
If I didn't make the bed each day I think he would have something to say about it.
We had thunderclap on Saturday night.....the baby is teething and we thought it would give daughter a chance to get a bit of a rest.
Thunderclap will be two next Monday....well, he will if he lives that long.
He is like all almost two year olds.....full of curiousity. We all know what curiousity did to the cat.....well, last Saturday night it almost did the same to him.
He was climbing up the leather recliner chair to get to the phone. He thinks it is wonderful to take the phone off the hook and listen to the disembodied voice on the end of the line telling him to replace the hand set. I had gone into the kitchen to get him a drink.....I came back into the living room just in time to see him fall off the chair and get wedged between the wall and the chair. He howled like a banshee. I went to pick him up and told him it was 'alright'......normally if it is just fright he repeats 'alright'......but he just continued to howl......then I noticed that there was blood on his jim jams...... he had cut his hand on the thingymajig that fastens the phone cable to the wall. I took him into the kitchen and held his hand under the cold tap. This ratcheted the howling up a couple of gears. He would not let me look at the wound at all. I got a good wodge of gauze and put it over the cut and put some micropore on to anchor it.
It must have taken at least an hour for him to settle down. I put him to bed and he eventually went off to sleep. While he was asleep I tried to get a better look at the cut.....it was difficult as I daren't put the main light on in the bedroom. I put some tegaderm onto the cut.... this is like skin and is a relic of when I was nursing. In the night the tegaderm rolled up and he woke up crying......the cut must have been catching on his jimjams. So it was back to the gauze and tape.
When I did get to have a proper look at the cut it was quite a gash.....almost a flap in one of the creases of his hand. He kept telling us it was sore, but wouldn't keep the dressing on.
Wednesday this week he had to go to the minor injuries unit at AVH......there they bandaged it up and put him a tubigrip glove on.
Do you think it has stopped him from climbing....? Of course it hasn't.
Wednesday when it was icy my hubby was stopped at Church traffic lights and a young girl ran into the back of his car.....now normally this would stress him out no end and wind him up something terrible, but he was quite philosphical about it....no-one was hurt....cars are only chunks of tin.....these are the things that I would say, but I expected him to eff and jeff. Maybe it was because the young girl was pretty and when she got out of the car she was shaking, shocked and crying......mmmm, I'll have to remember that trick! The damage looks nothing at all, but the bill for the repairs is over £1000.....the girl was hoping not to go through her insurance, but now we have had estimates she is having to reconsider.
The negotiations with her have been most amicable and tonight we were surprised when she turned up out of the blue with a box of chocolates for hubby and a card to say 'Thanks' for being so understanding.
