I haven’t had much time to blog lately. The truth is that I am on nights so not much has happened except for boring work stuff. Sparks has been working damned hard and I have barely seen him. He is doing 7 day weeks from 6am til 5.30pm and is too tired to go out when he comes home. All in all, I have been feeling a bit bored and miserable…. I hate Winter.
Yesterday, Sparks finished work early and we took the opportunity to get on the bus to Manchester and go for a meal and a film. The only thing is…… we couldn’t agree on which film to see. Sparks wanted to see the new Coen Brothers film which has had rave reviews. I wasn’t so keen as I have seen trailers and didn’t fancy sitting through 2 hours of the usual Coen Brothers Banjo Picker characters with confusing plotline.
I wanted to see Sweeney Todd, it has had good reviews and a superb cast, I mean, who could pass up the chance to ogle Johnny Depp??? Well, Sparks could apparently. He wasn’t keen to see it because it is a musical. I tried to point out that there really isn’t that much music in it, but he wasn’t buying that.
We ended up compromising and seeing Cloverfield in the gallery. Thank God for the gallery!!!! If it wasn’t for the bottle of wine that we can take in there, I would have probably walked out. Never have I seen such a bad film. Do not believe the hype that the trailers are showing on the tv at the moment. This film is serious rubbish, a cross between Godzilla and the Blair Witch Project, it is basically a monster attack on New York filmed by a gang of 20 somethings whilst filming a going away party for a friend. There are plenty of effects like tall buildings falling, quite reminiscent of 9/11 and the confusion that ensues from people panicking but nobody knows what the monster is, where it came from and millions of other inconsistencies. There is no real ending, it just ends with the bombing of Manhatten and the camera goes dead…..That’s it.
After having to run for the bus home, we finally sat down and came to another compromise. Sparks will come and see Sweeney Todd with me and I’ll sit through the Coen thing. Surely they will both be better than Cloverfield.
