Yes, yes.......I know I have been quiet.
Life has been full of mundane and dull stuff.
Nothing much worth writing about, either that or I would have got myself hung for what I did write(if i had written it, that is).
Confused are you?
Well, Never mind.......come Sunday morning, Ma and I are off on our travels.
It has been a long time coming. The last time we were away was the week beginning Easter Monday.
I can't remember going as long between trips since I was working. But we were actually supposed to be going away the week beginning the 19th of June, but with ma having had the stroke...well, it didn't happen.
It has taken Ma quite a time to get her confidence back......and she is still a bit embarrassed about her speech impediment.
When she is tired she slurs her words. Like she has had a gin or three......and, as an inveterate conversationalist, this is a bit of a handicap. She feels that it makes her sound dim witted......let me tell you, her wits are as sharp as ever....it is just the wiring in her brain is a bit scrambled.
Anyway a couple of weeks ago she went to the quacks for a check up......the Doc was pleased with her progress.
Ma asked if it would be Ok to go away on a bit of a break.....Doc gave her the thumbs up...so Ma started to look for a trip away.
She asked if there was anywhere I fancied.......I told her that I was just the chair pusher and would go where ever she wanted, but I suggested in strong terms that she choose somewhere not too far away.
I should've saved my breath to blow on my gravy.
Ma was nothing, if not diligent, in her search for a suitable break.....but she told me that there were no holidays available to local places(like Llandudno, Southport, St Anne's, Whitby, Harrogate) so what did she book?
The chuffing Isle of Wight.
Don't get me wrong, I love the Isle of Wight....but it is such a long long journey for Ma. The time it takes to get down there, well, we could be halfway to Oz.
Anyway, the good side of it is that we will be travelling down there on a Sunday, staying for 8 days.........which gives Ma a good recovery time from the journey.
We know our way around and will be able to get about on the local buses......and coming back should be easier, because that is on a Sunday too.
We are going to the Ocean View in Shanklin.
We won't be doing the 'Round the Island' excursion.......we might just go off on our own and see Carisbrooke Castle, or lurk around the hotel......there is a swimming pool, sauna and steam room....so I might just install Ma in the room with her fave mags, some hot chocolate and a ginger biscuit and then go and do a few turns around the pool.
So I will be missing next week...no cooking, no washing up.....but I will be giving my chuckle muscle some exercise......and if we go to Ryde.....I'll be sweating my cakes off pushing Ma and the chair up that great big hill.
Oh Yes, I have left it late to tell you all this because I didn't want to Jinx the thing, because Ma would be soooooooo disappointed......I would probably get my stipend removed! Painfully.
