Continuing on a theme.....

Just to continue on the same theme as yesterday.......age and all that stuff.
I was telling Garinda that I plan to grow old disgracefully......I am sure if my own paternal grandmother....who I wrote about yesterday..... could see me,she would think that I am well on my way.
Last year, I went to visit my sister.......the one who has emigrated to Brisbane. I have a 13 year old niece......who thinks I am decidedly 'ODD', though she has been brought up far to well to tell me so.
Several times when we were in the car going somewhere Muti would be telling some story about our escapades as children, and I would be in the back seat of the car laughing so much that tears streamed down my cheeks....and 'H' would be looking at me incredulously...... as if to say ' What IS she on...?'

During the visit, my sister made sure that Muti and I had as many varied experiences as possible in the 6 weeks we were there.

I'm sure you are wondering where this story is going, just bear with me, it will soon become apparent.

We all went to Movie World....... a brilliant theme park on the Gold Coast......we went during the week so it wasn't particularly busy.......most of the Oz kids were in school.....my niece had been given a 'special' day off in our honour, with, I hasten to add the blessing of the school.
We arrived just after 10am....opening time, Muti.....being in a wheelchair got in for free.......and we got in on a cheaper family pass.

I am telling you.....I was like a dog at a fair......didn't know which way to run first.
There was sooooooo much to see, and all those scarifying rides to go on....all completely FREE.

My niece 'H' had set her heart on going on one of the most scary rides on the park.......but didn't want to go on it on her own.......her dad said he couldn't go on it he would sick up his 'substantial breakfast'........her Mum just looked at the faces of the people coming off and said 'NO WAY'........Muti was a non starter.... so that just left me.........she said 'What about it Aunty M'...........I said 'Yeah, let's do it' and handed my specs over to Muti for safe keeping.
We ran up the ramp and joined the small file of people waiting for the ride......during this time 'H' got cold feet........so I went on the ride by myself.......it was only 90 seconds, but it was 90 seconds of exhilarating speed, stomach churning twists and a short spell of seeing the world upside down..........I LOVED it.
I went on the ride again, and this time 'H' came along......the point I am going to make is that I could not see MY grandma getting up to such exploits.......In fact I can't ever really remember her doing anything that looked as if it was remotely FUN. So that is why I think she would be frowning at my.... how shall I say......'lack of maturity'.

I shall continue to do the things that look like fun.....even when I am 80.........Anyone want to do the Sydney Bridge Climb with me.......?
I would like to do that at some point in my life.
I can't remember her ever wearing lipstick, perfume or even having a bubble bath........I know that wartime constraints had probably some effect on how she viewed life. Oh, and there is just NO way I would be wearing pink damask corsets and Lisle stockings of an indeterminate colour.

I will do the bridge climb. I don't think I'd let my fear of heights put me off that one, it would be too good an opportunity to miss.....Just as long as there's no jumping off anything involved.
