Cover Versions

Who remembers those LPs before Now That's What I Call Music?

They were compilation albums you could buy in the 70's?

Dolly bird in hotpants on the front cover, and all the biggest hits of the day sung by backing singers...badly.

God, they were awful.

I had one for the bargain price of £1.99 from Woolies in Accy, which had Night Fever and Mull of Kintyre on it.:D

Nice choice, Mr C, the Righteous Brothers' cover always makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck. There were two other versions in 1955, Les Baxter whose version reached number 10 and Liberace who hit the number 20 spot.
yeh les baxter was who i couldn,t remember wyn, knew about the other but find it very hard to say his name,as i worship the ground hes buried under.;)

Lovely treacle voiced Ollie Austin does a version of Late in the evening.i think it was either Eddie Cockran or Chuck Berry ,, anyway its brilliant

I like the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb, but also really like the original Pink Floyd version, They are very different and fantastic in there own genres.

The Neville Brothers version Sam Cooke's, "A Change is Gonna Come", beats the original hands down. Daniel Lanois' production & arrangment of this track brought out the best of Aaron Nevilles voice.

It could be sacrilege to say this, but I reckon it is better than Otis Reddings cover of this track.

Another one i forgot about is George Faiths version of In The Midnight Hour.Off the album To Be A Lover.Classic dub/reggea.

i see shaker has come up with a top choice again with "Hurt" covered by Johnny Cash .
the video to that is worth a thread of it's own......it makes me cry every time i see it.

Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower. iIn fact most people who covered a Bob Dylan song did it better than him, brilliant writer and all right singer/guitarist etc but most bands improved on his versions, with the exception of Guns and Roses Knocking on Heavens Door. (Sisters of Mercy did it much better :-))

Other very good covers include Gun's Word Up, Faith No More's War Pigs, Dickies Paranoid and the Jam's Heatwave.

heres a great track i forgot was a cover just played it. Chris Farlowe - Out of TIME. the original was a stones track on some album aftermath maybe, cant remember. but Farlowes is a real Classic.;)

I think his version of Personal Jesus is better than the original by far.
Also shows Marilyn Manson how fear really sounds.

Well just heard Blondie is back hehehehe

Blonde versus edison revamped version of heart of glass

Loved the original & this doesn't seem too different in modern version:rolleyes:

Oh FFS just found another - the original was fantabulous but the cover of do they know its xmas version 2 ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr i've just spent mins with my eyes shut & ears covered  dont like - cringe! & cover 3 wasn't great either!

The 1st band aid song was good why ruin a good thing!

Weird Al is your man for covers.
All better than originals and wet yourself funny.
Love "the Saga begins" = American Pie for Star Wars fans.
Michael Jacksons - Eat It and FAT
Amish Paradise, Pretty Fly for a Rabbi, Smells like Nirvana
And my own personal favourite "It`s all about the Pentiums Baby !"
