David Lloyd

David Lloyd went to Accy Tech (up Ossy), and played cricket for Accrington, and then on to Lancashgire CC where he was captain. He played for England many times, became the England Manager / Coach and went on to be a Cricket Commentator (or Pundit sometimes). A true Cricketing legend, and a real Accy Lad.

He is a thoroughly nice bloke and,for my money, the BEST commentator on the game.He has a wicked sense of humour and it's great to hear such a broad Accy accent on Sky Tv.

Our family once spent a summer holiday with Lloydy's family in that most glamourous of locations.....Fleetwood!This was years ago;I recall my brother David playing cricket on the beach with Graham LLoyd;Lloyd snr was a pal of my dad's from their time at Accrington CC.I often think of it when I see him on Sky;he has done well for himself.

Our QUOTE=Margaret Pilkington]I was in the same year as David Lloyd at Peel Park.......he was noted to be a good criket player even then.[/QUOTE]

He still played a bit during the winter when he was playing cricket for Lancashire. I reffed him once, from memory he was playing for Baxenden in the East Lancs league. One of the nicest blokes you could meet.

HE IS ONE OF THE NICEST OLD GUYS,:) I JUST LOVE HIS ACCENT,,,,I ONCE CRACKED UP LAUGHING BECAUSE SOMEONE ASKED IF HE WAS RELATED TO CLIVE LLOYD,,,:oTHEY WERE BOTH PLAYING FOR LANCS AT THE TIME,

Wouldn't surprise me, as his family were connected with that church.
would have a small wager on it in fact, also seem to recall he got a few of the LCC lads playing for em. think Bob (rats)ratcliffe was one, will probably find out for sure this week sometime.;)

cashy...david hughes also played with bumble in accy combination.if memory serves me right it was with willow mount but i could be wrong.

I think you,ll find it was a different David Hughes who played for Willow Mount. Quite right about David LLoyd playing a few games with Stanley reserves back in the 60s. I think he was a year behind me at the tech, a great protege of Bob Cunliffe.

after discussion with a mate (guy who knows better n me) he did play for Cambridge Street Methodists, and also Cedar Swifts who were the top team in accy at the time, David Hughes, Bob (rats)Ratcliffe, and later Bernard Reidy all played for 1 or the other. as n aside Jack Simmons was also a very good footballer, was on Evertons books for a time.;)
