Does fat = Ugly....?

I have recently posted a thread about the governments efforts to legislate about what the children of this country eat.
I know that there are great health concerns about the obesity levels of children.... and rightly so. Diabetes and heart disease is not something you want to gift to your children.

There have been some comments posted about smoking and health too.....and while the post was really only about government meddling, people have thought that it fits into the general tone of the post.
Some people have posted some very sweeping generalisations about fat people......almost equating with Fat = Ugly...or Fat = Lazy. This may be because they themselves are thin and have no concept of what it is like to struggle with keeping the weight off. To have to think before any morsel of food is consumed..... to refuse to go out for social meals because it is not a pleasant experience.....or to even refuse social events because you feel that you will be judged not on what you have achieved in your life, not on your personality.....but on the way that you look.

And diets......Food companies make millions of pounds out of women who are made to feel insecure and unworthy about themselves because of their weight......and we women are stupid enough to believe that THIS diet is the one that will work for us.
Dieting doesn't work. When a pig farmer wants to fatten up a pig he reduces the amount of food it receives.....he does this for three weeks and then gives the pig its normal rations.....and guess what .....? the pig gains weight.

Women are at a disadvantage anyway in the weight stakes.....we put on weight more easily as we get older and it is far more difficult for us to shift this weight......and once we become menopausal, well..... it is harder than ever. Nature has a reason for this......she wants us to get at least some oestrogen when the ovaries pack up......she does this by making us store fat cells, because it is in these fat cells that male hormones are converted to oestrogenic compounds. Ok.... Science lesson over.

It appears that most men prefer us to have the more voluptuous curves.....and recent studies show that the 'Normal' size for women today is 14/16. Marilyn Monroe was a size 16.....and she was considered beautiful......so why do we beat ourselves up to be thin?

It is a great thread Marg, but as sadly thrown up some very nasty comments from people you'd hope would know better.

Glass houses and people spring to mind in certain cases.

I don't think you are ever happy about your appearance anyway.
I'm a size 8, always been very slim, but I'd do anything to put weight on. You never see anything in magazines on "how to put on weight" do you!!!!..........it's all about how to get it off. I eat like a horse, and never stop eating...........but can I put on a pound?? can I hell, then people assume that your anorexic or something.......so believe me it ain't easy for us slim girls either. To find a pair of jeans that fit nicely, I usually have to pay threw the nose for them.
