Doing something new.

It has always been my practice to try to do new things...Well, that is as long as they are legal and appeal to me.

When I was at my next door neighbours funeral I got talking to one of our friends.
She mentioned that she had started to go to beginners Yoga class...and was finding it not just enjoyable, but beneficial too.

I told her that this was something I had been thinking about.
As I have got older I have found that my flexibility is disappearing fast.
In fact I think there is someone injecting sand an cement into my spine when I am asleep.

So she said 'Why don't you come to this class with me?'

I thought for a moment and then said 'Why not?'

So for the first time on Thursady I attended this beginners class.
I have to say that I felt some trepidation about going and almost contacted my friend and told her to let me think about it for a few weeks...but I got a message from her that told me she had already OK'd my attendance with the teacher of the class....so I felt I had to swallow my trepidation and go.

A couple of things I had to ask about....like what to wear?
I was told that Leggings and a loose top and for my feet....nothing...bare feet were best.

Leggings...mmm...leggings! They never lie.
I felt sure that I would look like a badly filled sausage....and had I got any leggings?

Wednesday found me looking through my cupboard to find leggings.
When I was working, the hospital ran step classes and keep fit classes and I went twice a week to these.
So did I still have my gear? You lot know that i am not keen on chucking stuff out.
I felt sure that in the deep recesses of my upstairs cupboards I had a couple of pairs of sports leggings from way back then.

concerted efforts did not find them...then I got to thinking that they had either gone to the charity shop or they had been given the flingo.

I did eventually find a pair of Navy blue sports leggings.(they were in an old bag that I kept my kerpfit gear in)
These were at least 20 years old, faded and I was no sure about the integrity of the elastic.
They would have to do.
I did not bother to try them on until Thursday teatime...(perhaps not the best of plans)the good news was that in spite of the passage of time, they still fit me...better still they did not look too bad.
The elastic was not as good as it might have been, but there was no way that these would fall down.
I partnered the leggings with a baggy sweat shirt type top.

I did not want to be buying new stuff in case Yoga and I were not compatible.

Thursday night it was blowing a gale and tipping it down, but it was nice and cosy in the community centre.
I received a really warm welcome from the other ladies in the group.
I signed in, paid my money and positioned myself at the back of the room.....did not really want anyone looking up my old address.
The hour sped by...and before I knew it we were into the relaxation time and the class was over.

I was like Oliver Twist...I wanted more.
I can't wait to have my next class and I have been practising some of the shapes at home.
and even in this short space of time I feel less stiff(by a bats eyelash) and my hip discomfort has eased.

Nicola was keen to find out how I had gone on....her dad told her that my ankle was in plaster and my arm was in a sling from trying to turn myself into the shape of a pretzel.....lies, all lies.
All good.

Margaret, love this story, made me chuckle. I wish I had been there - but only as a fly on the wall watching as if I got my body in a twist these days I don't reckon I'd ever be able to straighten myself out again. Good on you for giving it a go, and I hope you continue to enjoy it and the benefits you get from these classes.

The ladies told me that I did very well for a 'first timer'.
I tried everything....and quite surprised myself.
I told the teacher(more properly called the Yogi) that she was going to witness some terrible shapes from me.
She told me that she would be surprised if that were true.
Anyway, glad it made you chuckle...if I can make someone smile then my day has been worth it.
