Carolyn, it did my heart good to read that your Mum(in advanced years....like mine) had chosen to get another pet.
Who are we to say that they are too old to have the companionship and love from an animal?
Animals don't judge how you look, they just love you for who you are.
My mum only managed a month without a pet.
Chico died on the 20th of March and I delivered Roxy to Ma on the 20th of April.(it seemed a lot longer than a month.....looking at Ma's miserable fizzog didn't make me feel good)
What is the point of waiting.....of having a prolonged period of mourning the loss of a much loved pet.
You know in your heart of hearts if you want a doggy companion.....and if you do....and the opportunity presents itself with lights flashing and bells ringing, then you would be daft to pass it up.
There is good evidence that older people with pets are happier and healthier.
So yes. On consideration......I definitely did the right thing.....and for the very best of reasons....to keep Ma happy.
