Early to bed.....

So we went to bed early.....well, early-ish......again I was made to watch the Jungle thing......we had our glass of brandy each and we settled down.
We turned off the TV and nattered until well past midnight.
Debs is just a year down the line from an acrimonious split with her partner......who just happens to be my @*$T of a brother. Debs was the best thing that ever happened to him. She was far too good for him, and he treated her like S**te. They were together for 17 years and in that time he never bought her one present. He made her feel bad about herself and when he started another relationship he made her feel that somehow she was to blame....and that he had done nothing wrong.
He told her that she would never amount to anything and that she would never find another man to look after her like he did. What a joke!

This time last year she told him that she was going to move out of their house and he would have to take on a mortgage to buy her out.
He thought she was bluffing and was absolutely gobstruck when two weeks before Christmas she moved into her own place.
She has had a really tough time in that last year, but at last her life is turned around...she has just met a new man and he worships her....buys her presents.....tells her she is beautiful.....takes her out.....all the things that she deserves. I told her that I am so pleased for her.....she is more like a sister to me and I would choose her above my stupid cruel brother any day. My brother thinks that Debs has poisoned me against him, but this is a guy who couldn't even visit his mother when she was in Christies.
I wouldn't 'P' on him if he was on fire - it would be a waste of good water!

So Debs and I talked about how incredible it was that so many changes had happened in a year. Eventually we put out the light and settled down to sleep.....hoping that we might find presents in the morning.

Why is it when you go away that you wake up bright as a button earlier than you would at home? I was up by 6am.....no stocking with presents in it.....must have been a bad girl eh?
Debs woke up about 7am and she had no presents either.....we must have both been bad.
Muti came down to our room and she hadn't got anything either so we both felt better because we KNEW she hadn't been bad.
After breakfast we were going for a cruise on the river. To be honest I didn't want to go. It was a very cold, wet day and the sky was the colour of gun metal. Debs forced me to go......she said it would blow the cobwebs off me.....I didn't know I had any cobwebs.
We were going to walk down to the Harbour but it was too wet so we took the bus down.
Muti settled herself on the below stairs deck, which was closed in from the elements and was heated. Debs and I stood by the rudder and watched the wildlife. We got quite whimsical when the captain started telling us about the wildlife. Cormorants and shags.....Debs said she was going to ask her new chap if he knew the difference between a Cormorant and a Shag.....then she said he could have a Cormorant but he could forget about the Shag! I know, I know....very juvenile humour... the stuff of twelve year olds.....but it made us laugh......and there is nothing like a good laugh! When we went back onto the closed in deck, Muti was there telling stories and holding court.....she was making people laugh with her tales of past holidays and the adventures she had had.....not much change there then!
The cruise took about an hour and a half. We were served with hot coffee and we could have had a mince pie too..... but to be honest there was so much food to be had at the hotel I really didn't want anything.
In fact my Christmas Dinner I just had the soup and a sweet because I prefer my main meal in the evening. Oh, yes and there was afternoon tea at 4pm with sausage rolls and Christmas cake. Needless to say we sisn't stay in the hotel for that.....we went into Exmouth and looked around the shops. Muti spotted one of those wheeled walkers.....you know the sort that old biddies have to help them get around......it had the advantage of having a seat on it too. The price was very reasonable. Before you could say 'Jack Robinson' Muti was into the shop and parting with her cash. No thought of how we were going to get the thing back to her house.

My hubby was picking us up when we got back from our jaunt - he was not too impressed. He couldn't see how he was going to get our luggage, a wheel chair and a wheely walker into the back of his car.....but more of that later.

At dinner that evening Santa visited and we all got a little present. I had taken a present along for Muti and Debs.....Muti said she was embarrassed because she hadn't got me anything.....I told her that her company was enough....well, as long as I got my fully fledged wheel chair pushers badge after this trip.

another episode soon.
