eddie paynter

He was also landlord of the Crown. Gave me an Eddie Paynter bat (left handed), signed by the South Africans of '39, finished up back in Cape Town when my Brother nicked it.

He played for Enfield early in his career in the Twenties and also when he retired from professional cricket after the War.He lived off Church Lane in Harrington Street. He was also in my Mothers class at St James School off Atlas Street before the First World War.

Perhaps you are spending too much time in bed Yates - it is affecting your memory.

Without a doubt, Eddie Paynter's name is writ large in the celestial hall of sporting fame.

You should have gone to Specsavers if it has taken you so long to read my post Bob;);):D

Perhaps I posted this in another thread, but there was a parade in Clayton to celebrate Paynter'S homecoming after his spectacular feat.

There was the young son of a minister in the crowd, and the car carrying Eddie was late. The boy grew very restless - so much so that he suddenly yelled out at the top of his voice:

"WHERE'S THIS BLOODY PAYNTER?"

True story. Told by many who attended.
