Exam results.

I tried to get on here yesterday, but all my best efforts failed.
I don't think I had anything very special to say.....no that's not exactly true.
my daughter started her Lent Term at Uclan this week.
Just before Christmas she had some exams and they were being marked on a presentation......then a week last Friday she had to go in for her Anatomy and Physiology Exam.
When she arrived home she was quite despondent about her efforts, saying that she felt sure she had done badly.....even though she had worked hard and had her nose in a book most of the time.

The rest of the students in her group had gone for a coffee and a 'post mortem' on how they had all performed......I know that we used to do this when I was a student(many years ago) and it has always been my opinion that it is a pretty pointless execise.
Once the exam is done and the paper is handed in, there is nothing you can do, other than wait for the results.

I was glad that she was going off to London for a little break as I thought that this would divert her thoughts a bit.
She wasn't sure whether she would get the results of her efforts this Monday when they resumed the course......anyway they didn't, they had to wait until Wednesday.
To her joy and surprise she had achieved a score of almost 74%.......the results of her other work were also in this region too.
She is feeling very relieved and I think is perhaps quietly pleased with her results.
Daughter is under no illusion that this is the level of work that has to be maintained if she wants to get a good degree.......she is prepared to put in the work because she wants to do well.
One of the tutors on the course went to congratulate 'her girls' and express her pride in them.....I thought that was very good.
So....... well done girl! I'm proud of you.

Hi it's lettie, I am on Spark's login as mine is playing up at the mo. Nicola has done brilliantly, 74% is fantastic at degree level but from experience it is difficult to maintain for the duration. There are good modules and bad modules to every course but realistically at degree level 50-55% is a darned good mark. My first mark was 75% but I never got one as good after that despite hard work, my overall got me an upper 2nd. Missed out on a first by about 2%......

Lettie, I have always told her to aim high...if you miss the moon you may still catch a star.
I think she knows that realistically it is very difficult to keep up that kind of standard......but it helps that the stuff she is studying, she finds absorbing and interesting.
I have told her that it is a long haul and you just have to get your head down and do your best......but with two small children.....as I say, I am very proud of her.
