On Easter Sunday, one of my neighbours was doing a bit of spring cleaning.
She decided to change her bathroom curtains.
The ladder was got out and the curtains were changed....as she was coming down the ladder, it moved and she was pitched onto her tile floor.
Initially, she just thought she was shaken up and bruised....but on trying to get back downstairs she realised that there might be just a bit more to it than that.
She could not put her weight on her foot and it had swollen up to the size of a loaf.
She summoned her daughter and she was whisked of to the hospital.
Investigations completed....and she was admitted.
Her ankle was broken in two places.
Surgery was going to be needed to fix this.
A hospital stay of four days was on the cards.
On returning home, she went to stay with her daughter, but was eager to get home.
This was going to be a problem because she had also sustained a shoulder injury and could not use crutches.
Her son in law Came down and brought a bed downstairs and sorted out the furniture.
The lady came home on Tuesday.
She has carers coming in three times each day, but because this is termed a crisis care package, the times are a bit hit and miss.
Yesterday, they came to give her lunch at 11.15....and then came to give her an evening meal at 3.30pm....she was not ready to have her tea at that time.
I took her a magazine over and some flowers and a carton of fresh juice.
she told me about the carers and the times they were coming...she was not complaining, but she said it was not really 'right' for her.
I suggested that perhaps (if she would like) I could go over and give her her evening meal and then wash up for her.
She said that she would be very happy for me to help out in this way...as long as I did not mind doing it.
I said I would not offer if I minded.
I also offered to take some home made lasagne for her tea today.
I have never made lasagne in my life, but himself has had withdrawal symptoms as the lasagne he likes has not been in Aldi since before Christmas.
He has tried other brands, but all of them have come up wanting.
So I offered to make one for him.
It is just cooked now and my house smells of roasted cheese and garlic....it looks like it might just go down a treat.
