Extravagances.

I told you in my last blog that I had bought myself a MacBook Pro.

I had seen one advertised about three weeks ago.
Not new, but refurbished and upgraded to the very top spec.
Something like this, if bought new would cost over two grand.
I dithered, I dallied and by the time I decided I would spend, the thing had been sold.
I got in touch with the seller and asked if there would be another opportunity to buy.
I was told that there were Apple products coming in all the time to be refurbished and upgraded and to keep watching what they had for sale.

I was kicking myself for not being more decisive in the first place.
It boils down to the fact that I have what could be called 'catholic guilt' at spending money on myself.
It always makes me a bit jittery when I spend a chunk of money on something that isn't 'essential' even if it is practical...the fact that I get satisfaction out of it makes it somehow a luxury.

I always worry that once the money is spent, some large bill will fall on the mat and I might struggle to pay it.

So I bought this luxury for myself and what happened?
The washer went on the fritz. It is a Bosch, bought at great expense almost 18 years ago...so the expense back then was not extravagant, it was clearly a good buy.
It has never given a moment's trouble in all that time...and though it is looking shabby...rust breaking through the enamel, it worked brilliantly.

It felt like fate was slapping my legs for being selfish(nutty, I know).

Anyway, I went online to trusty ao.com.
They had a very nice replacement Bosch washer...and do you know what?
It was almost exactly the same price as my 18 year old model.
I showed himself...he huffed and puffed and said 'there must be cheaper ones than that'
I told him I don't want cheap, I want good.
There was something of a heated discussion, but in the end he said to order it.

But, I didn't order it.
I decided I would try it with a small load...after cleaning out the filter trap.
It ran a little noisily, but it did the load...and then another....and on the last load it seemed less noisy and more like its usual self.

It may be the brightening of the candle before it goes out.
So, I might need a new washer soon...but not right now...and that won't be an extravagance....and I WILL be getting the make and model that I have sights set on...even if it means hawking my duck along the Barbary Coast.

It is an Apple Laptop Cashy.
I bought one for Nicola about three years ago and she was impressed with it.
I have had a sort of envy but couldn't really justify spending the dosh.
Then I thought..'what the hell, you're a long time dead...I'm having one'

It is different to what I am used to, but you can learn anything if you have a mind to...and I am sooo over Microsoft.
