F.A. Cup - Rd 2

It's at home and could well have been much worse!

Mansfield will be trying to keep their promotion ambitions on track....something we don't have to worry about.....:rolleyes:

And we've got "one or four" important players back from long-term injury.....

"Come on you Red-Men!"........

I like your optimism C.G., but I do not share it sadly.....

Morning VALAIRIAN.........after each game Stanley Play I always anticipate the next game with optimism, what else should football fans do.......best not be realistic and sad.....much better to be optimistic and happy......if my gift to the world and my fellow man can be optimism.......then we always have a chance...both in football and life!

COME ON YOU RED MEN!

A win and another big match in Round Three will do!

Gave it a good go but unfortunately no trip to Anfield (or anywhere else).this season - let's concentrate on climbing the league

I thought that Stanley were superb in the first half and scored a brilliant goal with a sweeping set of passes and a clinical finish. Mansfield played good football and the referee did well too. Best 45 minutes of football this season at Stanley IMHO. Astute and experienced Nigel Clough played the ?move of the match? by making two substitutions at half time. The fresh legs pushed Stanley back and we conceded corner after corner. The corner kicks were whipped in superbly and were very difficult to defend against. It was only a matter of time before Stanley conceded to make it 1-1. Mansfield continued to dictate play and eventually substitutions for Stanley and more by Mansfield reduced the flowing football to counter attacks. Stanley got ahead in the first half of extra time and we all hoped for the same ?game management? that we saw last week. Mansfield continued to dominate play and duly equalized. Stanley didn?t really have the right players on the pitch for the penalty shoot out IMHO and Mason the Mansfield keeper made three fine saves from weekly taken penalties to take the match. Devon Matthew?s was superb again but he took a bad knock but played on so bravely. Liam Coyle also took a knock and was subbed. I hope they are both ok for our next match!
ON STANLEY ON.

Remember those 5,000 stalwart Stanley fans at Anfield?
Well, 4,000 of them missed a great battling performance from the Reds in atrocious conditions.
Stanley outplayed their League 1 opponents in the first half but just couldn?t add to their one goal lead.
As expected, the Stags must have had a rocket from Clough Jnr and started the second half determined to get back into the tie.
Their first equaliser was inevitable after a succession of corners, but Stanley came good again to retake the lead in extra time.
But it didn?t last long after Wright did well to scoop out a deflected cross, only for it hit a Stanley player?s back and allow Mansfield to scramble the ball in.
Stanley played some good football and fully deserved not to lose but didn?t progress as a result of three very good saves from the Stag?s goalie.
And  well done to the ref for keeping a lid on things.
P.S. given what?s going on down the road at Ewood Park special mention to Stanley?s groundskeepers and to Andy Holt for investing in the pitch to make it the best in the league.
Back to the main business in hand.
