Falling into Accyweb

Heth told us in her blog how she has been a member for a year now, and that she fell into Accyweb by accident.
It made me remember that my induction to Accyweb was not too dissimilar to hers.

I had been a member of another forum....Silver threads among the gold......it was mainly aimed at the older surfers, but there were a few young members too.
It had a great atmosphere and I loved it.......then for some reason it just went off line for a while.
It did come back but I could not access it. I tried all ways of getting back into the forum and in the end I am ashamed to say I gave up.
This must be something in the region of 10 years ago.....I was far less computer savvy then than I am now, and even now I consider myself, still a baby in terms of understanding technology.

One day I happened by a forum that was discussing Accyweb.
I thought I might just have a look at this mysterious Accyweb.
I stood on the sidelines for a little while, watching what was going on........then my curiousity got the better of me and I registered......being a technological dummy I registered under my own true name....thinking that I would get a chance to write under a pen name once I had registered.........wrong!.
Anyway it didn't much matter. If I was going to be putting my opinions out there I should have the courage to own up to them.

I was very reticent about posting at first.
I used to watch what people like Willow the Whisp posted.....and Acrylic Bob.....and the rambling posts of Jambutty......if you said it was Wednesday, he would give you seven hundred reasons why it was Friday........I was in awe of these people(it seems strange to admit that now...but I was) somehow their opinions seemed to be respected, while mine felt very lightweight and of little significance.

The folk on the forum welcomed me and were always helpful......it was a comfortable place to be.
We had pets then.......and you had to post to earn Ackers....the currency of Accyweb.
If you didn't post, then you didn't earn any ackers and your pet(mine was a dog called 'Chewy')would starve.....well unless one of your friends on the forum saw the poor mutt was getting hungry/sick/needed playing with, and did the deed using some of their hard earned ackers.
I used to get paranoid if, for whatever reason, I could not get onto the forum to post......My virtual pet was real in my head( another symptom of being a BOB...batty old bird).......and Doug rescued my poor Chewy a couple of times.

There was an upgrade and the pets disappeared....I hope they are happy where ever they went.

I started a blog, and as you can see I am still prattling on....with a little break every now and then to see if I am missed(how conceited is that?).

I have shared all kinds of life experiences with those who come and read what I write.
Sometimes, I hope it has helped other people though tough times of their own, lots of times I have told you funny things......I figure that everyone deserves to have something to make them smile each day........and, if I have managed to do that then, I am chuffed to little mintballs.

I don't think there is anything that comes close to the fellowship that is Accyweb.......I know there are many folk that I haven't met in person, but I feel like I know your internet personna, even if you are far different in real life.....with the odd exception(and they know who they are)the folk on Accyweb feel like friends.

Like you Heth, I would not have a bar of Facebook....it is too big, and in general it feels 'Shallow'.......don't know if that makes any sense.
I have had many invites to join Facebook, but I stay loyal to Accyweb....after all himself sometimes gets a bit jealous when I spend a couple of hours on here......so I haven't time or the inclination for Facebook.

In October it will be my 7th Accyweb birthday...unless someone comes and evicts me, I am here for the long haul.

I am glad I got your blog juices flowing!! Very good to read Marg, its nice to know that it isnt just me that thinks Facebook is poo!! :D

I hope that you like myself are going to be around on here for years to come!

I think I might just have another blog inside me tonight.........................;)

It is interesting to note that once someone blogs about a subject then others remember things too........I just wish more folk would come on here and get their blog feet wet.
Glad you enjoyed the latest episode.

I will await your new episode with bated breath.

margret you would be greatly missed by a lot of people, your blog (& little stories) have been enjoyed by all ...don't go anywhere, not that i think you are, my mrs p love you ....mez x x

i don't think my online personna differs at all from how i am in real life, i say things...if people don't like what i say then they don't listen (or they can sod off ;))

keep up the good work Marg, you're a star x

i joined facebook a while ago, mainly to get in touch wi people far away that aint from round hear, to be honest though probably only been on it about a dozen times in oer 2 yrs, then only fer a short while, cos i agree its crap,:D but it does serve a purpose fer me occasionally.

I have people on the other side of the globe, but I use e-mails to keep in touch.
I don't like Facebook, it is open to all kinds of people........and sometimes people who you wouldn't want to be in contact with, can see what you are doing on your page........No, not for me.
If I lose touch with someone then it might be sad , but life goes on.

The only people I would really like to get in touch w ith can't be reached by facebook........I'd need a good medium to get in touch with them.
