Well our family is going from bad to worse. My uncle is terrified of a big, violent Scotsman on the same ward. It is quite understandable, as on the day he was admitted this is the same man that tried to strangle the Sister, as well as nearly throttle another patient on the ward. My uncle's paranoia has now been transfered all on to this man.

The staff explained to my uncle that if he felt threatened he should press one of the panic buttons that are dotted around the ward. He did feel threatened, but unfortunately he pressed the fire alarm button. All hell broke loose, and the fire brigade was called out.

Yesterday afternoon just as my cousin left the hospital, and had a couple of hours to spend with her husband and children before she went back for the evening visiting, she received a call from the ward. Her Dad had managed to climb through the ceiling and was now refusing to come down from the loft. My cousin didn't know if she should laugh or cry. Twenty minutes after leaving the hospital she was back up there, just as the fire brigade arrived for the second time in a little over twenty four hours.

He was too frightened to come down, and it took a lot of coaxing from my cousin, as well as from the fire brigade, as he'd wedged himself behind the air conditioning unit in the loft.

This means he definetly can't leave the ward in the near future. His two grandchildren are heartbroken as they aren't allowed to visit, not that my cousin would allow them to go on this ward, and it's sadly only three months since their grandmother died, so they feel they are experiencing a double loss at the moment.

Tomorrow my Mum is going to the hospital, because the chief honcho will be seeing my uncle at ten thirty. I'm hoping to go with Mum as well, but that's dependant on me sleeping tonight, and being fit to drive. We'll see.

This all seems never ending, especially for my poor cousin. First of all her Mum spent most of this year in hospital, now her Dad, who up until recently was fit enough to drive to Manchester every day, but now can't be trusted with a knife and fork, is in hospital, and will probably have to spend Christmas there as well.

It's going to be a strained Christmas round our family table this year. I just thope we can try and make it as normal as possible for the children.

Aaaah Rindy, how very sad. It must be awful for your cousin to see this. She does sound like she has very good family support though, keep it up because she'll need a shoulder this christmas.

Oh Rindy.....how tragic. Your cousin must be beside herself with worry about her Dad. I hope you do get to go with your Mum.....I'm sure she herself will need the support.....and it is always better for two relatives to see the consultant.....one person never remembers it all. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

From what you have written I admire your cousin sooo much, she seems to have endless strength despite trying to deal with her loss and looking after her own family....AMAZING WOMAN xxx

Oh, Hon, things sound awful at the moment. I really hope that a new year means a new start for everyone!
