Anyone else had theirs yet? just had mine, should have it every year but it's the first time i've actually gone for it...are there any side effects from it other than a piggin sore arm?

I haven't had one since 1995, I'm allergic to them, don't have the pneumonia jab either

Sure was Shaz, had a nice jaunt down Ossy, had a look in the Youth and Community Centre and had a brew with Martin the centre manager, and the sun was shinning all the time too:mosher:

i dont have it ... supposed to but i refuse it .. if i have the flu jab i get flu (both times)... dont have it and dont get flu ...:D

was talking to the nurse about it today and he said it isn't the same as it used to be, there is nothing 'live' in it anymore

My other half is supposed to have it....and I know it is not a live virus, but if he has it he gets really bad colds(he calls it 'flu'...but it isn't) one after another...so last year he didn't have the jab, and he was well all winter......never got a cold.

i've had it this year because i've had a really bad chest, my asthma seems to be getting worse, everytime i have a cold it seems to lay heavy on my chest making me very breathless, i know it won't stop me having a cold but if it stops me having flu and feeling a lot worse than i do at the moment it was worth having it

That's exactly what happened to me Margaret, I used to have the flu jab every year and within a few days I ended up in Queens Park E3 and was in and out of hospital all winter, I had my last flu jab in October 1994, the next year I refused, it wasn't until august 2002 that I was next admitted to hospital, seemed to work for me

We have this discussion every year .. just hope some of the inane and uneducated comments don't put people, in vulnerable positions, off from what could be a life-saving jab. .. :p

Kate, Jaysay would fall into the category of vulnerbale...wouldn't he? But he has found to his cost, that the flu jab doesn't do for him........as it doesn't for my husband.
I know the benefits(and the pitfalls) of the flu jab.......and what Flashy asked was our opinions.

Sometimes it is better to take common sense precautions than take the jab.......ah Yes, but then, common sense isn't that common anymore is it?

There is actually quite a divide about the flue jab in medical circles, I had a discussion with the SHO on E3 back in 94 when I was admitted only days after having the jab, I said I wasn't having it again and she agreed, saying it doesn't do for everybody

When I was working there were quite a few of the Docs wouldn't have the jab, despite being on the frontline of medical services, therefore at 'risk'.
The point I was trying to make, was that we are all adult enough to look at the pros and cons, then make an informed decision.
I dislike the idea that one size fits all in medicine......like anything else medical, it has its drawbacks, these have to be considered sensibly.
