Shale, Fracking Are Not The Main Cause Of Texas Water Shortages - Forbes

Checkmate. Read it all.
Texas has always been short of water- watch a cowboy film or two. They've imported water from Mexico for many years(long before fracking began) but Mexico aren't releasing the amount they agreed- result an even bigger shortage.
Also the population is growing rapidly-result more water use. And Texas swimming pools will have to be the biggest!
There'll soon be a rumour fracking has caused a water shortage in the Sahara!

People will believe what suits em Gordon!! meself i have said there aint enough evidence one way or the other.:)

I agree there may be more questions to be asked and safeguards to be built in, cashman.
I suppose I should have put 'check' not 'checkmate'. The game's not over yet.

Surprising what you find wandering round Google. Would you believe in a state which has always been short of water(Texas) they grow 7% of USA's rice!
The fields are flooded 3 to 4 inches deep for several weeks twice a year(2 crops) and there are hundreds of big rice farms. The farmers get the water 20 times cheaper than the townspeople.
So fracking is causing a water shortage??

fracking turns up, in the nearby by towns the wells dry up for the first time.

coincidence?
no.

Your posts are full of something, but no facts that are backed up with any substance, Unless it's that brown stuff that comes out of bulls, too much of it can ruin the environment we AccyWebbers depend on!

"Water is by far the largest component of fracking fluids. According to driller Chesapeake Energy, an initial drilling operation itself may consume from 6,000 to 600,000 US gallons of fracking fluids, but over its lifetime an average well may require up to an additional 5 million gallons of water for full operation and possible restimulation frac jobs.

5 million over the life of a well is nothing compared to the amount of water that is lost every day to leaks. In 2010 the water companies were losing 3.3 billion litres every day in leaks according to the Independent in the link Water torture: 3,300,000,000 litres are lost every single day through leakage - Home News - UK - The Independent

That makes the water used by fracking tiny and insignificant - did you ignore the leaks thing because it didn't help your argument?

So you don't think 5 years of drought in a State that has always been mainly arid could be the cause?
You're post 97 simply lists water shortage areas. It doesn't mention fracking.
The Texan State Water Board states around 1% of the overall water usage in Texas goes to the oil and gas industry. A lot of that is 'brackish' and from very deep wells so is undrinkable anyway and can't be used for agriculture. More is recycled sewage water sold to the frackers by the towns and cities.

Might I suggest your assumption and your post 'Doesn't hold water'?

Just a minor point- Briscoe appears to be in the middle of the West Texas Desert. Contributing factor??

Somehow I get the feeling that 'fracking' must be far more environmentally friendly than the little escapade we helped the Americans with to get our hands on Iraq's oil.

this is what happens when utilities are run for profit of the greedy hedge fund companies... its not only water that is leaking but billions of £s out of the country through tax avoidance and shareholder money.

I don't care about all that you said at the moment. I was just showing that the water used by fracking isn't much relatively speaking

fracking uses gallons of water , where are they going to find gallons of water? yes that's right using local resources its common sense;) ohhh georgie boy your plan to make your relatives billionaires is not going to plan... time for plan b :D you don't do plan b ha ha
